4.0 out of 5 stars Ready Set (fix lid) Go
I like the coffee making part of the coffeemaker, but, like many reviewers have said, the lid is VERY loose. If the lid is on right, you can drink from it without dribbling down your chin, but it doesn't take much to knock the lid off of the cup. The cup itself looks good, and fits in my car cup-holder (a big plus, compared to those that have handles that get in the way)...

2.0 out of 5 stars Brew Cone 5 Stars...Travel Mug 1Star
The Brew Cone is wonderful...mmmm...freshly brewed coffee for every cup.
The Travel Mug is another story all-together. The seal on the lid is tenative at best. Mostly leakes coffee with every sip. I won't use the lid anymore. Otherwise it's a pretty mug.

3.0 out of 5 stars You are only getting a brewing cone., February 4, 2006
I purchased the Travel Mug Coffee Maker for my
87 year old mother. She enjoys a good fresh cup
of coffee in the morning and does not like the hassle
of using the coffee pot for a single cup. She has used
the brewing cone several times and enjoyed it immensely.
The mug, however, is totally useless. The first mug we
received had to be returned. The lid only rested on the top
of the mug. It did not attach in any way. We returned it
for a replacement which is only a slight improvement. This
one gives a good impression of a lid that will stay put but
is totally untrustworthy. My mother can not count on it to protect
her from a cup of hot coffee spilling on her lap. She
brews the coffee in a regular mug and will probably use the
Melitta Mug to root cuttings. This said, I would purchase
this item again, recognizing that the brew cone is all that I am
getting to make it worth the price.

Overall, you can't beat the price for what you get. And you can use the coffeemaker top on any other travel mug. Melitta just needs to figure out how to make the lid a little tighter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just get the cone, November 25, 2006

The good points: the blue color is as gorgeous as it looks in the picture. The metal interior keeps beverages warmer longer. The sip hole is closeable, but not leak-proof. The cone method is awesome for someone who only drinks one cup at a time and doesn't want to fuss with a coffee-maker.
The bad points: within twenty days of receiving the mug, the lid's seal was leaking and dribbling in two places from merely one use or less a day. The bottom of the mug was not cut flat and wobbles dangerously, making gentle stirring a two-handed production. Calling for help was a bear because of different customer service companies handling different Melitta products. The manufacturer refused to replace it because it was purchased online.
To sum up: get the cone alone for a cheaper price either online or at the store. I use it with another commuter mug daily and love it. The Melitta mug is junk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lid leaks... buy the cone, ditch the mug, April 19, 2007

My husband purchased the Melitta for me after reading the reviews about the quality of the coffee and the problems with the lid. I experienced both issues.

First, this makes a consistently great cup of coffee exactly the way Alton Brown explains it (see the Good Eats episode "True Brew"). I love the flavor the cone produces, and it is easy to clean - drop the paper filter in the trash and rinse the cone.

Second, after about 2 weeks of use, the top started to drip. My husband warned me that this might happen, and it did. So, I now either leave the lid off or use the coffee mug from QuikTrip when I want it on the go.

Do you mind paying $9 for a coffee cone that produces a great cup of coffee and a throw-away mug? If so, the Melitta is for you. If not, try another alternative. Hope this was helpful.

1.0 out of 5 stars simplified coffee making, March 2, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having tried to balance a Melitta coffee filter holder on other mugs with various sucess, it is very nice to have a mug that specifically is made to hold the filter. In addition to a nice fit, it is possible to look through the bottom edge of the filter to observe the amount of liquid in the cup, making for no more surprises when it overflows. The mug itself is lined with stainless steel and has no inside gaskets or other parts that can absorb coffee and tea tastes and stains, so clean up is a snap. While not keeping the coffee hot for hours and hours, it does nicely for about 45 minutes or so.

OK, it is a few years later, and I do not know if this product is even still being made, but save yourself the money. I nearly suffered a scalding burn with the mug separated from the liner, and this was only after a few weeks use. Buy just the cone, or better still buy a stainless steel coffee filter.

1.0 out of 5 stars NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT, March 29, 2007

This is the worst product I have ever bought. In fact, I had bought 3 of this disaster and had to throw all away as useless. Its one function in life is to hold coffee, and it can't do that because the lid falls off if there is even slight wind. If you want to buy this product, just flush money down the drain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lid is fine! A newer version perhaps?, January 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't have much to add to what is already been said here. Great coffee fast and easy, there isn't much that can go wrong. I use it at work rather than spend nearly $2 for a 16oz cup of "designer coffee" from the cafeteria (and I've gotten quite a few "wow, that's a neat idea" comments too). Mostly though, I wanted to address the lid issue in other reviews. Not that I doubt those experiences, but the mug I recieved seems quite solid. The lid is screwed on and has a nice silicone seal. It cannot possibly fall off or leak, unless it was not screwed down in the first place. I noticed all of the reviews compaining about the mug lid are a couple years old, so possibly the design has changed recently.

One of the worst products I've ever purchased. The top isn't secure so that it leaks; so much for travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little gadget - Awesome value..., January 30, 2006
Melitta has really improved the design on the cone from previous versions - They've added a lip on the top so you can pick it up without burning your fingers and a window that enables you to see how much coffee has already dripped into your cup; now you won't spill coffee all over your counter! (I can't tell you how many times that happened with the old version.) I'm actually glad our puppy chewed up our old one cup drip Melitta!
While the travel mug isn't great, I find the top fits more snugly if I put it on when the coffee is really hot. I also use it at my desk, without the lid. It keeps my coffee warmer longer.
Makes me an absolutely delicious cup of coffee, and has made a difference in the way I start my day...
I also purchased one of
I ordered one of each color and got free shipping...Makes a great gift for a recent grad or someone who just got a new job...Life's too short to drink bad coffee!
