I had a Melitta MEMB1B for a few years and loved the coffee and machine. When it finally started leaking too much, I replaced it with the "smart" mill and brew. Smart machine maybe, but I was a stupid idiot for buying it (and paying WAAAAY more than my original wonderful Melitta. After only 3 or 4 weeks, the plastic posts on the carafe lid broke off. After about 1 1/2 months the weather and everything else stopped working, giving me error messages that something was not functioning and no info could be obtained. After 3 months, I turned it on, and....nothing. It won't brew.

AVOID this machine like the plague. I wrote to Melitta and no answer. I threw it in the trash.

We have owned several Melittas over the years and loved their previous Mill and Brew. When we had to replace our model after two years the style was no longer available. We purchased the Smart Mill and Brew and are not happy. Too big in size, too complicated to operate between grind and ground, warmer turns off to soon, and what a waste addding the weather station in it. I have replaced it with another mfg model. I would not recommend this brewer.

We've had the Smart Mill & Brew for over a year. My husband purchased it, and now that I'm searching for replacement baskets and seeing how much the darn thing cost in the first place ... he's in trouble. We love the coffee it makes, but within a few months we had to replace the carafe because the cheap plastic lid broke. He called the manufacturer for a replacement. We had a black machine, they only had white replacement carafe, so they gave us free shipping. Now the filter material on the basket is pulling loose, so in searching for that replacement I find the product is no longer manufactured, and I can't find a basket for it. It's worked for much longer than some other purchasers' machines, but not being able to find parts for it is annoying. And the weather station is an absolute joke. Another reviewer said it ... look out the window. This review is probably a waste of time since the particular product is no longer manufactured, but I'd be wary of buying another Melitta product just because their customer service is hinky at best.

Replacement carafes for the Mill and Brew coffeemakers are impossible to find. My father broke his carafe not long after I bought his Mill and Brew, and no one - and I looked everywhere - has a replacement for its non-standard carafe, with no luck.

With the Mill and Brew being more expensive than Melitta's other coffeemakers, you would think they'd make a replacement part available. Perhaps they expect Mill and Brew buyers to be flush enough to buy a whole new coffeemaker if the carafe breaks?

It's a shame - my father loved his Mill and Brew - but without a carafe it's basically an expensive doorstop. So if you must buy, baby that carafe, don't let the kids near it, wash it only by hand, etc.

OK, in fairness, I bumped this rating up from one star to two since it brewed a great pot of coffee while I was in the shower.

But this required several convoluted steps and extra minutes -- I had to unplug the unit and plug it in again after the blue LCD screen blanked out (this occurs frequently), then wait for several minutes while the machine synchronized the correct time and weather forecast.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to circumvent this several minute process and just get to the main function of brewing coffee. It's almost as if Melita designed the coffee brewing function as an afterthought to the weather forecast, barometric pressure reading and a sleeping cat that pops on the screen when the unit is inactive.

In addition to the highly anti-intuitive operation, the buttons on the unit function as if they were crafted in a sub-standard 1970's Taiwanese factory -- push a button and you get a result about half the time! This includes pushing the "on" button for it to start grinding and brewing.

I often wind up setting a timer to activate brewing within two minutes when the on button ignores me.

Annoying!

I envision this unit going curbside in the not too distant future.

I bought this coffee maker in Oct 2008 for $50 in a department store. It made the best fresh coffe for me every morning. Also, I really enjoyed the weather station...The coffeemaker IS big, but it used less space than a regular coffeemaker and seperate coffee grinder.
2 weeks ago the coffee maker stopped brewing. It still grinds the coffe, the weather station still works, it just won't heat the water.
Customer service was very friendly. Unfortunately the Melitta Smart Mill & Brew is not manufactured anymore, so they couldn't replace the coffee maker itself, but I was offered a replacement article (off of their website)of same or slightly greater value to make up for the loss.

Two stars for the fact that the coffee itself was great, even though I could only enjoy it for 6 months...

But seriously...$[...]? NEVER for a coffee maker, no matter how great the coffee...

This product makes very good coffee. The only reason I gave 4 stars for this coffeemaker it's because it's too big.

The Melitta Mill & Brew is very easy to clean and to use. It tells you the weather and the temps. of that week and it makes great coffee. It can do ground as well as beans. It so hard to find in the stores, so I get mine from Amozon.com (ME1MSB). It is sent right to my home. Salton Inc. is the maker of this product and it has been a very good product for us!!!!

Melitta ME1MSB Smart Mill & Brew

I have owned and enjoyed two Melitta Mill and Brew products however when the old model was discontinued and my brew basket broke, I bought the new version which is totally unreliable. The machine searches for the weather, and the coffee grinder will not run while searching. Who needs the weather,look out the window, I want my coffee. I am totally disappointed with this product. My recommendation is do not buy it at any price.

I bought this coffee maker over a year ago after reading many different reviews. A lot of people liked the taste of the coffee brewed in the Melitta MEMB1B Mill & Brew, but the construction sounded cheap, so I decided to try this one. Overall I have been very pleased! It makes a great tasting coffee which in my opinion is most important! That's why I gave it five stars. I feel spoiled with that fresh ground cofee taste! It is a little time consuming to wash out the filter & there is a little buildup of coffee ground residue in the filter so I gave four stars for the construction. It took time, made a mess & extra room on my counter to grind my coffee in a separate grinder so overall I like the all in one better! This coffee pot keeps my coffee very hot for almost 2 hours. Unlike some of the other reviews, I actually love the LCD screen with the weather... I have two kids and a very busy schedule so it is quick & easy to check the screen while I get my cup of coffee to help them know how to dress for school or how to plan our summer days! Still working great, but I would definitely buy another one when the time comes!
