then this medical dictionary is worth MUCH more than it's suggested retail price! Having used Dorland's for the bulk of my studies (for over 1 year now) I can only say that I wish I had THIS dictionary when I started. Certainly, there are other med dictionaries out there, but if you have a strong visual bent about your learning style (or are trying to develop your visual learning faculties to increase your learning speed) then I STRONGLY recommend this book. Wish someone had shown it to ME when I first started my studies!

Melloni's dictionary presents clear definitions of the terms you need for medical school and beyond. The vast majority of figures complement and clarify many key definitions. Peggy Leonard does do a better job with word roots in Quick & Easy medical terminology (ISBN 0-7216-9624-4) but this dictionary does have an adequate section on word roots. There's also a section for medical abbreviations which is helpful.

I'm a student and I refer to his dictionary whenever I come across a word I don't know. It has so much packed into it! There's pictures on almost EVERY PAGE and definitions for everything you'll ever come across. It is pretty convenient for everyday use- it's about the size of a textbook. this one's definitely a keeper!
