While many high profile jazz labels degenerate, Joe Fields' Highnote label continues putting out high quality recordings on a consistent basis. This session, recorded by RVG, is no exception. The title 'Mellow' is somewhat misleading, nothing sleepy about this. Particularly noteworthy is Lewis Nash--his cymbals are up high in the mix and his unfailing swing is a wonder. He, along with Ray Drummmond on bass, make sure nothing lags. Houston Person has a huge tone and blows a lot of soul into this program of mostly standards and ballads. Blues in the AM is my favorite cut--check out the sample and you'll know right away what this CD is all about.

I'm forever browsing music on MP3 downloads, especially jazz. I came across Houston Persons "Mellow" and thought it was just Aweosme:) If you love jazz or even if you think it's OK,lol this CD is a Must Have!!
