Kenny Burrell: Mellow Tone,
By D.R.L. (Austin, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In a Mellow Tone: Smooth Swing of Kenny Burrell (Audio CD)
This CD contains a variety of Kenny Burrell tracks recorded for the Muse label in the late '70s and early '80s. The exact same CD is available under the title "Giants of Jazz" (Savoy Jazz released 2004). While not as consistent as Kenny's classic work in the '50s and '60's on Prestige, Blue Note, and Verve, this material certainly is very good. All ten tracks have been remastered using 24-bit digital transfers from the original acetates and tape masters, so the sound is very good but not up to the standards of Blue Note or Verve. The accompanying personnel are not listed. Highlight for me is "All Blues" - a masterpiece of chordal melody playing by a superb guitarist. All of the tracks have Kenny's typical blues influence. This disk is a worthy addition to any collection of jazz guitar music.

I just heard Willow Weeps for Me from this album on Pandora. Awesome. Immediately added to my wish list. I really like Stanley Jordan's work, and this made me feel the same when listening.
