Broke after a year.

The sprinkler oscilates great and you can adjust the length of the water as well as the width of the sprinkle and those are easy to set and adjust and work great.

The metal base is solid.

We also bought the Dramm Oscillating sprinkler and love both of them. The Melnor has some plastic on the connector, but even with our high water pressure and frequent use, it works beautifully. In the past, we have had some sprinklers that don't make it through the first three uses, but this one is a winner - we love it. The oscillation is fast - so the water coverage is very even. I'm impressed with the quality - I would purchase the Melnor again.

I've had this sprinkler for about a year. It was sent to me free from Melnor after I emailed them about a problem with another Melnor sprinkler, which stopped oscillating just a couple of days after I bought it. Well, this replacement has lasted about a year, but now it has developed the same problem: it gets stuck in one place. After reading a number of reviews of Melnor products on the Internet, I have come to the conclusion that this is a typical Melnor problem--a problem, moreover, of which the company must be aware. Are these folks not ashamed to sell the public this junk?

Recently I purchased this sprinkler and a 'nominal equivalent' manufactured by a competitor whose name begins with 'N', with the idea of comparing them side by side. I have now done that, and I have written a separate review on amazon for the other product.

The broad yellow band at the end of the photo controls the oscillation and is incrementally adjustable from full sweep to about 1/3 sweep. The sweep can be made to fall at any point between symmetrical and entirely on one (or the other) side of the sprinkler, providing maximum versatility.

The two u-shaped yellow tabs adjust the width of the spray pattern, and can be adjusted from a minimum of just a couple of feet to a maximum of about 80% of the maximum sweep length for a given water pressure. The width pattern is always symmetrical.

Now, the (shut-in) water pressure at my house is consistently between 50-52 psig, which is lower than many of you have, so remember this when evaluating the observed/measured maximum coverage area of 48' x 38' (= 1824 sf). The sprinkler will distribute about 5.5 gpm which translates to about 0.3"/hr at full coverage. The "rainfall equivalent" will go up as you reduce the area coverage using the abovedescribed controls. I'll leave the math to you.

Several other reviews have adequately described the quality and workmanship of the sprinkler and I concur, so I won't repeat all that here. I have tried to provide information that I would have liked to have had before I bought, but couldn't find.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with this sprinkler and definitely would recommend it to others.

Lasted about a year and never worked well. The little rubber nozzles for the water get moved around and spray in the wrong direction, and some of them get really weak because they're blocked. Doesn't oscillate unless it's going at a pretty high rate.

At first I thought this was the best sprinkler that I bought, but a month later it stopped oscillating. This seems to be a very common problem with this model. Looks like it is not very well built. I would suggest trying a different model.

I was searching for a gardener's preferred sprinkler, and this came recommended on one gardening site. I was a little disappointed, as I had higher expectations as to performance than the sprinkler actually produces. I find this a quality construction oscillating sprinkler, but with less control over the flow and span of water than I had hoped. When it comes down to it, this is a nice, quality sprinkler, but not a whole lot better than any other sprinkler of this type. One could obtain the same results from a lower-priced version, but this sprinkler will probably last a while longer than most oscillating sprinklers.
