Hawaiian Melodies from Yesteryear, August 26, 2008

Roy Smeck released quite a number of Hawaiian themed albums in the 50's and 60's, back when all things Polynesian was all the rage. This is an early MONO album that has been faithfully transferred to CD from the master tapes - no LP rip here. It sounds great. This is not a traditional Hawaiian music album, it is the Americanized version, called Hapa Haole that swept America and is a shining example of that. It also represents a catalog of rare LP's that have been released exclusively for the Japanese market. This is a real gem of vintage American Hawaiian music.
