Music for the Standardized forms,
By
This review is from: Tai Chi Melody (Audio CD)
This is not new age music for free-form taiji or qigong practice. Each of the tracks relates specifically to one of the five standardized Taijiquan forms comissioned by the Chinese National Sports Committee over the last 50 years. These works were composed specifically for these forms and are not intended for any other use.1. 88 Posture Yang Style Form If you're a practitioner of Standardized (sometimes called Orthodox, New Style, or Beijing Style) Taijiquan, these works are used to coordinate group performance of these forms, or as pace and time measure if such are used in forms competition (though none of the Standardized forms are truly competition forms). This particular performance of the works is one of the only readily available to the general public. Certain movements are hard to follow for timing, but in general it is good rendition of the compositions as compared to others I've heard.

Great for Tai Chi Beginners to Experts,

When I took Tai chi my teacher actually used this music when teaching us the 24-style short form. I came on amazon.com looking for it and lo and behold it was the first thing on the list of results! I loved it because after awhile you can lose yourself in the music and the Tai Chi just flows naturally, your mind forgets about the stresses of the day and you are merely in the moment, lost to everything else, but the rhythm, the sounds, the flow of the movement. Tai Chi is very beautiful and great for relaxation in many ways and this music compliments the movements.

Tai Chi Instructor,

Very well organized and composed CD. Excellent compilation of songs specifically written for Tai Chi practice. CD offers great benefits for beginners as well as more seasoned veterans. I personally use this CD to instruct students (mostly beginners) and it offers a nice, easily followed pace, as well as being soothing listen. Great Product

Good for practice,

A very good CD for Taijiquan practice. In general, the music is at a good tempo, and easy to listen to. The only real problem with the CD is the 24 movement form track. At just over 6 minutes long, it's actually too short for advanced students who perform the form slower than that. However, this problem can be avoided by using one of the other tracks (I've found the last two best).

Brings back memories,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tai Chi Melody (Audio CD)
I used to be a Tai Chi student at the JK Wong Academy in Richardson, Texas. When I was a beginning Tai Chi student, my instructor would often put on some music when we completed our warm-up exercises and started to do a Tai Chi exercise called "Standing like a tree". I discovered later that it was this music. I was learning the 13 and 24 Movements of the Wu (Hao) style of Sifu Jimmy Wong at the time. This CD brings back many memories of my first instructions in Tai Chi and I especially like tracks 2, 3, and 1.

Music for active meditation,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tai Chi Melody (Audio CD)
The melodies are for practicing Tai Chi. However this is music for meditation and relaxation and can be just listen to. One can get in touch with their soul and, perhaps unearth some of the truths of God and universe. At the least, it will melt away the tensions of the day.

I listen to this music while being massaged or when I just want to unwind. It's beautiful, harmonic and soothing. My massage therapist is recommending it to her other clients.

Great Taiwanese record company produces a wonderful record,
By Paris Huang "Paris" (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews

I had been listening to Traditional Chinese Music my whole life.(ironically, China is the only country that does not use Traditional Chinese -- for this beautiful language had been destroyed during Communist revolution) Fortunately, music, however, found means to survive.
Wind Records is a wonderful Taiwanese record company that values tradition. It had made effects for decades to discover poorly preserved or even once-been-lost traditional music, and then renovate and record them. "Tai Chi Melody" is a very fine record. It can be used for a Tai-Chi player like me, and also serves as a nice relaxing music.

Perfect for practice!,

I have seen several comments about the length of the song. Some teachers recommend 5 to 8 minutes for the Yang style 24 form, so this fits within that. In the class I am currently taking, the teacher tries for 7 minutes. Some pride themselves on being able to take it to 8 minutes. But many of the best instructional videos go less than 6 minutes. In trying to follow along with a couple of popular videos, I have found that the musical section usually associated with Wave Hands Like Clouds happens anywhere from 2:48 to 3:02 on my favorite videos, but in this music, we don't hear it until 3:15. I think that if you tried to hit that section with that particular form, you would be on track to end at 7 minutes plus. I used a free audio editing program to make mine longer, but you could also just program yours to repeat, or use one of the longer songs from this collection.

I teach many styles of Tai Chi and have been looking for this Chinese sanctioned music for some time. I use it especially for Yang 24 Form Style - as do most Chinese . I would highly recommend.
