I've never met Monika but from the 3 or 4 tunes I 've had a chance to listen to closely, she's definitely got something ! 'One For The Box' is a personal favorite of mine which I took the time to learn on guitar. It's fun, clever,(fusion of Parker/Davis influence), with a great guitar solo,(Denny Diaz/John Scoffield) and Monika virtuoso piano support. There's an interesting version of the Beatles classic 'And I Love Her'. I'm sure Sir Paul would approve of the harmonic landscape opening up on the tune. About half the disc is straight trio stuff with Monika's piano, bass and percussion. 'Could It Be Bop' is a really cool trio tune. You have to listen closely to the subtle rhythmic changes but it's definitely worth the effort. In addition to her husband Peter's electric guitar(he's polished playing in more than one style), there's also violin and clarinet featured on various tunes. She's got talent and this CD rewards intense listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Great Jazz Albums, February 24, 2003

I had this cd recommended to me by about 20 friends from the Indianapolis area. They said that she is creating quite a stir in the local music scene. So I decided to buy it. Needless to say I was in awe. It is one of the most beautiful albums of all time. Monika Herzig plays with such brilliance and beauty that would take anyone's breath away. If you are a lover of music, and a lover of jazz. I highly recommend mixing this into your music collection alongside of Bill Evans, Bud Powell, and Oscar Peterson
