Better the second time around,
This review is from: Melody: A romance (Paperback)
This Elswyth Thane novel tells the story of Adrian Locke, a famous artist who has more women in his life than he can handle. He is content to flirt with them all, without making any special commitment to any of them, secure in his comfortable flat with his initimitable butler/cook. One day, however, he receives a letter telling him that Alison Safford, his love from the past, has died. This causes Adrian to re-evaluate his life, and the women in it.
I first read this book as a teenager, when I had a hard time appreciating the depth of the characters that Thane so easily creates, or the hold that a love from years before can still have upon a person. Upon a recent re-read however, I fell in love with Thane's superb dialogue and engrossing plot all over again! |
