5.0 out of 5 stars Vamoose, Oklahoma - The Origin of Many Hamburgers, November 5, 2011
This review is from: Dead In The Melon Patch (Amanda Hazard Mysteries) (Paperback)
I loved this book so much! It was enjoyable from start to finish! Amanda Hazard, the accountant in Vamoose, Oklahoma (very small town) is the main character. Her guy friend, swarthy and handsome, is Nick Thorn.

Someone in dead in the melon patch. Amanda is determined to find out why and who did it. Amanda, to Nick's disapproval, questions people and tries to find out who pushed the person off the ladder.

Amanda becomes friends with Jenny, which I think is wonderful.

People don't like Amanda's questioning. They know she is trying to find out who pushed the person off the ladder. Amanda had better watch out - is she in danger? You will find out when you read this book.

I really enjoyed the part where Amanda takes in BJ Jr for a day to give his tired mommy a break, along with other parts where Amanda plays with him. He loves Manda. It shows what kind of person Amanda is. She cares about people, and she loves kids.

One of my favorite characteristics of this series is the beauty shop disaster. I won't tell you what kind of disaster Amanda has this time. You have to read the book to find out. I think Velma should have given Amanda her money back!

I love this series because it is small-town Oklahoma, a rural farming and cow community. Even though Nick Thorn is a cop, he also is a farmer. He rents land from Amanda. And even though Amanda is an accountant, she also helps Nick drive the tractor for the crops and round up the cows! She is one brave accountant! A few of those scenes frightened me! I've been away from the farm a little too long. If nothing else, these scenes made me appreciate my hamburgers more. I've eaten my share of hamburgers in my day. I know where hamburgers come from, as we've butchered many cows, and I've personally hand-grinded many steaks into hamburger. I've then personally shaped the hamburger into patties, and into the frying pan they went.

Yes, the hamburgers you eat could very well come from Nick and Amanda's farm and ranch! Nick and Amanda, out of a labor of love, risks their lives to round up your hamburgers! Cattle drives are not a day at the fair! And the bun could also very well come from their farm, as they raise wheat! Disclaimer: I am not being serious, as I know that Vamoose, Oklahoma is a fictional town, just as Nick Thorn's farm/ranch is also fictional. There is always that one person, or two or more, who would think I had lost my mind and was being serious.)

And speaking of the fair, I waited the entire book for the fair to come! Does Amanda win blue ribbons for her green beans and peaches? I'll never tell, you have to read the book to find out.
