Book Description

Cheek April 22, 2010

Imagine a John Hughes movie rated X  in this new wave erotic romance from cheek! Dori is the owner of a lonely heart. On a whim, she returns to her hometown to discover to her chagrin that her favorite movie theater has been turned into a bookstore. Nostalgic, she wanders in for a look around, pining for the good old days of the 1980s. But then something inexplicable happens—by the time Dori is back outside in the alleyway, she realizes she has also gone back in time, to 1983! Now an adult, no longer a carefree teenager, she ends up working in the beauty supply shop where she once labored as a teen for pocket money, and the place she felt the happiest in her life. And this time, she’s free to immerse herself in the adult world of the town—the parties, the nightlife, the men. She even ends up dating a young teacher from the local high school—her high school—another interloper from the wrong time, but someone also determined to save the theater from being sold.

More About the Author

Called a trollop with a laptop by East Bay Express, Alison Tyler is naughty and she knows it.

Over the past 20 years, Ms. Tyler has written more than 25 explicit novels, including Learning to Love It, Strictly Confidential, Sweet Thing, Sticky Fingers, and Something About Workmen (all published by Black Lace), as well as Rumors, Tiffany Twisted, and Melt With You (Cheek). Her novels and short stories have been translated into Japanese, Dutch, German, Italian, Norwegian, and Spanish. Her stories have appeared in more than 100 anthologies.

When not writing saucy short stories, Ms. Tyler edits erotic anthologies. She's recently completed her 50th collection, Alison's Wonderland (Harlequin, 2010). Her best-selling titles include Naughty Fairy Tales from A to Z (Plume), Naked Erotica (Pretty Things Press), and Best Bondage Erotica (Cleis Press).

Ms. Tyler is loyal to coffee (black), lipstick (red), and tequila (straight). She has tattoos, but no piercings; a wicked tongue, but a quick smile; and bittersweet memories, but no regrets. She believes it won't rain if she doesn't bring an umbrella, prefers hot and dry to cold and wet, and loves to spout her favorite motto: You can sleep when you're dead. She chooses Led Zeppelin over the Beatles, the Cure over NIN, and the Stones over everyone. Yet although she appreciates good rock, she has a pitiful weakness for 80s hair bands.

In all things important, she remains faithful to her partner of 15 years, but she still can't choose just one perfume.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my kind of time travel!, April 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Melt With You (Cheek) (Paperback)
I'm not a huge fan of time travel and fantasy in my erotica, but Alison Tyler does it well focusing more on the characters (read her Tiffany Twisted for some sexy body switching). She keeps it hot and kinky and fun as "Dori" goes back 20 years to 1988 and gets to live life all over again as an adult in her teenage world. Granted, I was still pretty young then, so the 80s weren't as angst-filled and lusty for me, but Tyler did wonderfully well at coating the story full of nostalgia with the movies (I think it's time to pull out Rocky Horror Picture Show again), music (title song is one of my favorites of the time), and fashion (day glo colors, ripped sweatshirts, and tons of hairspray).

It is fantasy so you have to suspend belief, it can get silly in some parts, mainly how Dori went back and the whole purpose, but this is all done close to the end of the book and wrapped up quick and neat, which is fine by me. As a result, the "hero" of the book doesn't have much time, we really see only snippets of him. The main draw of the book for me was "Van," the hunky boy toy 38-year-old Dori has a fling with. Their sexual romps keep the book going at a quick pace for a fast, light-hearted, and enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love the 80s-- and I love Alison Tyler!, July 25, 2008
This review is from: Melt With You (Cheek) (Paperback)
I love a good time travel and Alison Tyler has put a refreshing new spin on the genre. She doesn't take her protagonist Dori back in time hundreds of years--to an era she knows nothing about so she can fumble around learning how to survive-- she takes her back to an era of her own lifetime, the "mesh and lace" days of the 80s. Combine that unique angle with the kind of scorching hot erotica Ms. Tyler has become known for and you have Melt With You.

We've all waxed nostalgic about the past and said "If I knew then what I know now..." and Ms. Tyler has written a fast-paced, sexy tale about a woman who gets to relive those moments-- and do it differently this time around. Ms. Tyler does a terrific job of developing Dori's character so that readers will hate to leave her when the book ends. The eroticism is at turns amusingly realistic and "Is it hot in here or is it just me?" steamy-- a combination I find irresistible.

I know the title is Melt With You, but I found myself humming Eddie Money as I walked down memory lane (in a ripped Dayglo sweatshirt and leg warmers, of course) with Dori:

I wanna go back
and do it all over again
But I can't go back, I know...

I can't go back, but for a few delightful hours, Alison Tyler let me relive the halcyon moments of my youth and gave me a deliciously erotic read in the process! If you like your erotica on the lighter side, Alison Tyler's Melt With You will simply melt your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll stop the world..., May 15, 2008
This review is from: Melt With You (Cheek) (Paperback)
Well, I did stop the world to read this book. I put off chores and I shushed people and I took it everywhere including my son's Emergency Room visit. Not only did I love the erotica factor but adored all the 80s references. I love Dori! I want a sequel ;)
