1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible!!!

It's a total deception.

Imagine, Icehouse's classics cuts, mixed with now-a-day danceable sounds by the best Djs from Australia. What could be fallen?...everything.

The result is a such pair of 'Bad Words' for the real Icehouse fans, personally i only like the remixes made by the band itself.

But these ones doesn't have any...

By the time I came across Icehouse in the late 80's, they had already pretty much broken up. It took me a while but I eventually bought all their old albums and became a fan. To be honest, when I found this cd, I didnt really read the fine print about it being a dance remix of Icehouse songs. Had I read that info at the time I might have never bought it. Sorry, I cant really stand other people remixing other artists songs and especially turning them into dance club mixes.

Having said that I am shocked to find myself unable to stop listening to this cd. What these guys have done to some of Icehouses best songs is nothing short of brilliant.

Songs like "love in motion" and "lay your hands on me" are addictive. "Hey little girl" isnt bad but quite often the one I skip a lot.

If your a fan of Icehouse then I advise giving it a try. Wary of dance remixes? I was...now I love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! A Good Remix Album?! Really??, August 26, 2003

I am a sucker for remix albums. I always buy them with great expectations. That remixers will somehow improve on my old favorites. They rarely do, of course, and I am usually left disappointed at the end. However, "Meltdown" is an exception to the rule. Filled with mostly excellent reworkings of Icehouse classics. Track 1 is worthy of repeated listening...just hit the repeat button and get swept away in the remixes moody musical landscape. The only real disappointing track is the remix for "Hey Little Girl", which is rather uninspired and dull, though not bad to listen to. Overall, an excellent effort though!

As a longtime fan of Iva Davies and Icehouse, I was skeptical at first of the thought of a collection of classic tracks "clubbed up." Curiousity overcame me and I broke down and bought it.

What a coup! Many club mixes these days are little more than vanity projects for the various remixers. The mixes here stay true to the spirits of the original while giving them a new energy. If you're not a fan of club music, you won't enjoy this album. If you're an Icehouse purist, you definitely won't enjoy this album. Otherwise, check it out with an open mind, and you're likely to find it one of the best Icehouse collections out there.

But these ones doesn't have any respect from the original sounds, and in no way reach to be 'new versions'.

I don't understand the obsession for turning the classics in dancefloor's garbage (the fashion of the 90's marketing).

This one is worst that the 'Full Circle' compilation (at least there was a couple of interesting mixes inside), and that's saying too much.

The only star i've given to this one is maybe for the new track 'Lay Your Hands On Me' (definitly not from the best of Icehouse, but lets think it's a 'experiment' with dance)and Street Cafe -Smash'n'Grabb Mix- (clossest thing to 'worth the mix' in this cd).

If you're party people, you could find it funny, but If you're a complete Icehouse fan, I suggest you to save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Meltdown, exactly what has happened here.........., April 5, 2004

Anybody who loves the real thing that Icehouse can do will be very disappointed with this mishmash of great songs that have been put through the dance beat mill and mixed to produce pure
meltdown,no pun intended. Some of the songs are so heavily 'beat up' that they cannot be recognized as Icehouse songs.
I hated it and cannot play it knowing how good the original songs are !
I bought this in Paris because I desperately needed some Icehouse in my blood and totally missed my favourite album

Great Southern Land, now gone but never forgotten.
Buy only if you need the total collection or you like chucking money down the drain !

4.0 out of 5 stars A Novelty Album, March 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Meltdown (Audio CD)
I love this album, but my husband thinks it's a travisty. If you're somebody who doesn't like people messing with classics, it's probably not an album for you, but for Icehouse fans who don't mind - it's a lot of fun. Basically, it takes the tracks from the 70s and 80s and whacks a 90s style back beat behind them. Some remixes are more creative than others, with the standout being an remix of 'Crazy' that I can't stop playing.

Listening to the album makes me want to get up and dance!

1.0 out of 5 stars Icehouse - Meltdown, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Meltdown (Audio CD)
I am a huge Icehouse fan, but, whoever came up with the idea for this project and allowed it to happen should be executed. All of the great Icehouse songs have been so severely screwed up they are barely recognizable. It is a travesty of incredible magnitude.

On MTV I saw Icehouse live in New York and was highly Impressed. My Wife had Man of Colours and I bought Great Southern Land the best of album then I bought the meltdown from Amazon.com. The Amazon service was prompt and all of the cd and dvd cases were intact. Way to go Amazon.com a job well done. The meltdown holds up well on repeated listening. Lay Your Hands on me I would like to hear in a dance club sometime. Ira Davies is the Australian David Bowie and sounds great singing Heroes. Electric Blue is a police emergency code where I am for an all cars response. Its nice that there is a response for deep blue heroes of Law Enforcement
