4.0 out of 5 stars Great, if you can find it
Vinnie Moore definitely ranks up there with the other guitar gods from the 80's with the big hair and the neo-classical style of playing. This album, Meltdown-1991, his third solo project was a little different from his 2 previous albums(Mind's Eye-1987, Time Odyssey-1988). But believe me, it still kicks a**. This album has a more straight forward, blues-hard rock...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dead shred
For sure, Moore has some impressive speed-guitar chops in the style of fellow thrashers Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. But while (most of the time) those artists managed to thread fantastic melodic themes into their work, Moore overly relies on washed out 80's guitar production and tepid chord changes to aid the mostly superficial soloing. Besides few sporadic inspirations,...

This album has a more straight forward, blues-hard rock sound to it. You can still hear Vinnie's monster talent show through on the solos, especially on MELTDOWN, CINEMA, and CHECK IT OUT. LAST CHANCE sounds like the typical rock anthem song from the metal days and Vinnie absolutely shreds on it. A good cd that showcases the diverse talent of Moore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vinnie's best, April 29, 2004

This album kicks ass. It contains some of the best bluesy hard rock songs I've ever heard. It portrays his unique flawless style with a lot of feeling to the music. Meltdown was a great direction for Moore to take after proving his chops in his previous somewhat boring neo-classical stuff; this music is so much more enjoyable. He adds in sweep licks in the perfect places. And, importantly, he does not play just for the sake of speed on this album.

Anyone who likes rock music would love this album, seriously. There is nothing to dislike.

I've read some reviews that VM doesn't have his own style - this may be true...however, he borrows from many rock guitar greats and does a better job! To say Vinnie is talented is the understatement of the century.

The cool thing about this album is it combines the feel of a fun bluesy-rock album, the raw vibe of a metal album, with the thorough music knowledge/hyper-technical proficiency of a neo-classical album. Other than the fact it's a guitar instrumental, it's not stuck in one genre and it's definitely not boring! I can hear the styles of Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen and Greg Howe, just to name a few, all on this one album...worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars a rare non-classical shred guitar album, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Meltdown (Audio CD)
I was really impressed when this came out as VM until then published neoclassical shred music, which everybody else was doing as well-I may as well listen to Malmsteen as he invented the genre
anyway, this was very refreshing - shred blues with awesome chops and strong compositions. In my view this is VM's best as it proved that he can play anything and also separated him from the rest in an era when everybody wanted to be Ingve. Buy it if you can find it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just great as usual, April 10, 2003

Yes, this is a little different, a Joe Satriani guitar style of another great guitar player, this is a heavier album, full of hard rock melodies, and like Moore himself said, it's diferent, because if I took myself doing the same thing every time, I could get bored. So, rock on!

A shredder's delight, definatly some of his best work. I have worn out 2 copies of this album over the past 15 years and it still remains one of my all time favorites. A bit hard to find and a little pricey but, if you like heavey guitar instrumentals this album will make the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention while you here yourself saying "how the hell does he do that"?

Just got the CD -- had this on tape when I was going to school in Rochester. Great driving music.

Excellent playing, cool rock tunes, shredding. I really respect VM, his chops, technique, and feel.

This album makes you realize how difficult it is to make it in mainstream music as an instrumental rock guitarist. I doubt anyone but guitarists are going to own this album.
