Barry Melton's First Opus,
By Sandy Ross (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Melton Levy & The Dey Brothers (Audio CD)
This is an EXCEPTIONAL rock'n'roll record! Anyone who had any doubt about the true genius behind Country Joe and the Fish will have no doubts after hearing this album. Barry's original songs and extraordinary guitar playing both permeate this album and leave you wondering why they didn't do a follow up and go on tour. Mike Bloomfield's production lends an even more 60's-ish ear to the tunes!

This review is from: Melton Levy & The Dey Brothers (Audio CD)
Barry Melton(known for his stint as guitarist for Country Joe and the Fish)reveals his true talent on this often overlooked gem from the San Francisco music scene. Originally released on Columbia records this album was regulated to the back seat in the promotional department. With no ads in the trade magazines of the day or placement on any large tours the band broke up. Luckily someone had the insight to give this great album a second life on CD so that the few who remembered how great these players were together could listen to them once more. All the vinyl copies I had owned were all worn through from playing them for all my friends who I knew needed to hear the music that Mike Bloomfield helped produced on this great overlooked album.
