5.0 out of 5 stars "produced by st. germain" caught my eye...
first off, this isnt 'genre-busting'... i dont know where i'd go to classify this, but it's earthy, full and rich... very layered and has a lovingly nappy texture. organic.

if i still believed in 'neo-soul' then i'd say that this would either be 'the origin of it' or the 'elevation' to it... guess that jus makes it 'soulful'... not as 'jazz heavy' as what you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the soul??
Why did I bother with this CD? It's truly hard to sit through even if you're just looking for background music. Monotonous and trite, each track, built on programmed beats, is more empty than the next. I've heard it all before. The last track finally gives us a glimmer of originality , but its too little too late.

ummmmm, soel's album is comparable to archie shepp's 'attica blues'... contemporary to groups such as fertile ground, the pharaohs (extinct early 70's souljazz group/the roots of earth, wind and fire), gil scott-heron, alice coltrane...
or imagine if cinematic orchestra, roy ayers, isaac hayes , george clinton and fela kuti all came together to create an album...

...yeah, that might define it for me...

i buy 5 to 8 cds a month, at least, and this will go down as one of my top ten purchases for 2005... a great weekend album to lounge around with cultured friends.

peace yall,
dirtyboy.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOEL, February 18, 2004
This review is from: Memento (Audio CD)
Another stellar release from Ludovic Navarre of St. Germain fame and acclaim. This album continues with a fresh new sound mixing jazz, old 70's style funk, a little hip hop, and a world vibe together into a very solid enjoyable jazzy mix.

I found myself listening to this one over and over, which is rare for me. It's really good and highly recommended.

A note though - you should be able to find it cheaper out there than the horrendous overprice listed here.

This album involves various styles, but most of the tracks are a blend of 70s-everything. Tracks 3 and 5 are perfect for intimate moments with another human being. Highly emotional atmospheres!

The name is different but the music is the same, maybe less electronics.St.Germain produces this work of Pascal Ohse and other members of his group in Tourist.A must-have for Ludovic Navarre's music fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar, February 8, 2005

I've never been disappointed by anything St.Germain ties its name to and this is no exception. The soulful refs and jazzy waves this CD puts out has your whole body move'n and grooven. It's good at the desk, it's good at rest, it's good in bed, it's good in your head. The Dr. say's buy and you will like it. I heard it first on the sky radio.

4.0 out of 5 stars BLACK but WHITE, November 18, 2003
This review is from: Memento (Audio CD)
a interesting stylistic interpretation of sounds from the seventies,
grooves on a Barry White style,
the final touch of Monsieur Ludovic is omnipresent, but not as resolute in his variations as 'the' Tourist album.
