1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible book
This book is rife with typos and factual errors that make it frustrating to read.

I like the concept of making an easy-to-read, basic introduction to human anatomy and physiology for professionals that need to know the basics but don't have the science background to go very in-depth. I believe that was the authors' intention, but they failed miserably...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible book, April 19, 2008
This book is rife with typos and factual errors that make it frustrating to read.

I like the concept of making an easy-to-read, basic introduction to human anatomy and physiology for professionals that need to know the basics but don't have the science background to go very in-depth. I believe that was the authors' intention, but they failed miserably.

I like the images; they are attractive and help make the concepts easy to understand. Unfortunately they are not without their own errors. For example, figure 2-8(A) shows an impossible fatty acid (one of the carbon atoms has 5 bonds).

The thing that most annoyed me about the book (so far) is this sentence "The protons and electrons of an atom always are equal in number, so that the atom as a whole is electrically neutral." (pg. 20) This is so incredibly untrue, it is ridiculous. Ions (atoms that are NOT electrically neutral because they do NOT have an equal number of protons and electrons) are so incredibly important that they are discussed just three pages later.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good book for practical nursing, June 20, 2008

This book is one of my text books for practial nursing. It has been very frustrating to read. The information is not always clear. I have to find other books that will help me to understand the information.

In all honesty I'm just not that impressed with this book. It is required text for one of my classes and I will use it in 2 others as well. It's just not very engaging to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 Stars?, December 23, 2009
I just completed an A&P class using this book. I think this book is a nightmare for an attention-deficit person. The pages are incredibly "busy" and it is hard to focus on the concepts being presented. On the other hand, the illustrations and charts are good and helpful (maybe they just need a visually better layout). I found myself having to read, re-read, and map out the information myself differently because for me it was not presented in a clear way.

The CD rom that comes with this is helpful to quiz yourself. The student workbook is tedious in that it simply reprints all the diagrams in the book and has you color and label them. After I did the first chapter I was thoroughly fed up with it. Labeling: helpful. Coloring for 2 hours: not helpful.

I liked this book but the newest edition has more illustrations and examples..But still, it's a good acquisition and for the price it is very well paid. Worth it.

I purchased book knowing it had been used and highlighted, and found that with it being highlighted, it is easier for me to study from and grasp the most important concepts out of it. It arrived on time, and matched description when purchasing, WIll be purchasing from here again in future
