My reaction to this book is rather mixed.
I adore the temptations, especially David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. Now, I do appreciate a good groupie memoir, so it met my satisfaction in that area, but on the standpoint of taste and quality, I was very disappointed. I am rather bothered that Ms. Sapia insinuates that this book, in some shape, form, or faishion, was supposed to paint Ruffin in a more positive light, in contrast to the Otis Williams memoir. It most certainly did not!
...If this book was written with the defining purpose of exploiting her relationship with the great, late Temp, I would have given it five stars, but as there is a deal of deception to the reading public, It only merits three from me. However, it is an interesting read.

This book is a total disgrace! I can't believe this woman!! She claim to have loved David Ruffin, but then she writes a book so hateful and angry when the man has been dead for over 10 years?!! Yeah, I have read countless books about Motown and its stars and one thing is clear...David Ruffin was a deep man with a serious drug problem (and ego). But this woman allowed David to mistreat her. Not only did he cheated on her, but he beated her (according to her book). Instead of leaving him, she stayed right there and allowed him to mistreat her. Another thing that upsets me about this book is she protrays herself as a victim, but then she was the one that pursued him and started a relationship with David when he was MARRIED to someone else. Geez!!! I also feel that she is bitter over the fact that the love of David's life wasn't her, but the beautiful Tammi Terrell. He really loved Tammi, probadly more than Marvin Gaye loved her. Another sore point for me is her anger towards Otis Williams..... Genna lashes out at ANYONE who she feels got in the way between her and David. She even lashes out at David's brother, Jimmy. If Davis was alive today, this book would have never saw the light of day. Its a shame that she waited until AFTER his death to publish this trash.

Sensational!!! I could not put this book down once I began to read it. Every young woman should read it. So many of us (women, especialy we older ones) have "been there, done that" in some way shape, form or fashion. A this is a beautiful love story: of survival and overcoming many obstacles of life - and understanding the true meaning of "unconditional love." This is a wonderful testimony to all young women who are/will/have looked for love in the wrong places and when do find that true unconditional love - it has slipped away. Genna experienced joy and pain all for the love of "David Ruffin."

It took trememdous courage to write this book. It is filled with real life experiences which we all go through, but seldom are able to talk about, much less write and publish it for the world to see.

The Temptations were and still are my favorite male singing group. David Ruffin was special. He had a voice that could make you feel in your heart the story being sung in the lyrics. I never missed a show when Motown came to K-town (Knoxville).
