David Noonan has written a wonderful little novel, laugh-out-loud funny and painfully moving. Sometimes a great book gets lost in the shuffel. Such was the fate of this fine novel. It deserves a wider audience. Read it and pass it on! Noonan is the kind of writer we should embrace, and once you read "A Caddy's Memoirs" you will embrace it as well.

I rarely write reviews, but this book warrants it since it's been my favorite since I first read it about 17 years ago. I loved every page of this as I laughed throughout and connected deeply with all of the characters, especially the main character Jim. Whether you like golf or not, you'll enjoy this book. I challenge you to find a book that will make you both laugh and cry, because this one will.

Jim Mooney, 17, is growing up in a small Jersey town about 40 miles west of New York. He caddies at the local golf course. He hangs out with the other caddies. Much of their spare time is spent drinking and playing cards. Some are young as he is. Others are much older. Jim constantly thinks of "getting bare tit." His brother Matt is three years older. He has dropped out of college and sometimes caddies as well. Matt's parents are upset with him for quitting school. Matt is staying in a rooming house. The book covers their adventures as well as a romance for each of the brothers. The time frame of the book is late 1960's during the Vietnam war. Ultimately Matt is drafted and sent overseas. He does not return. A good fast moving quick read.

This novel was incredible... it will have you laughing one minute...on the verge of tears the next. It helps if you've played golf and you're a guy, but it's also about much more than just that - it explores life and youth and what we do to try and get through each day. I highly recommend this treasure of a novel.

David Noonan captures the spirit of the caddy in his riveting novel. The caddy lingo is invaluable. It warms my heart to see caddies immortalized on these pages. Bravo, bravo.

the author must have been a caddy. there is no other way about it. its not a nove for anyone who didn't caddy, it's only for those who have caddied and understand it. i'm 17 and a superlooper sometimes, and to read this book is to read about my life. it is great book if you are a caddy or have caddied beofre. read it and understand it's not written to be a masterpiece, it's written to make you understand or remember looping.
