This review is from: Memoirs of a Cold Warrior: The Struggle for Nuclear Parity (Paperback)
Given the military projects the author worked on at IBM and the Arms Control negotiations he was privy to I had hoped for some stories and insights about these topics. Not in this book. Instead the author has written a book that's essentially 40 years of score settling, it reads like a diary of every meeting he ever had and why everyone else was an idiot not to see his brilliance. At some point in their lives very bright people realize that being the smartest person in the room doesn't make you the most effective. It's too bad that wisdom doesn't come with age.
Essentially 228 pages of a bitter man settling scores. Disappointing.

I lived through the years the author disussed, and participated at a remove in events such as those of the Short Range Attack Missile. So far as my personal data are relevant, Mr Carpenter has described the events with masterful accuracy. All persons concerned with or interested in the key events of the closing days of the Cold War should obtain a copy of the book for their interest and for their archives.
