This review is from: Memoirs Napoleon's Egyptian Expedition 1798-1801 (Hardcover)
Greenhill has done Napoleonic scholars another favor with their publishing of this memoir, particularly since English language texts on the Napoleonic adventure in Egypt are so rare. The author has also appended a number of short biographies to add to ones understanding. Moiret, a junior infantry officer, paints a vivid picture of the campaign, the Levant and Napoleon's army. He shares his observations of the natives, the landscape, senior officers and members of the Egyptian Institute while tossing in the offical bulletins and announcements from the upper echelons. Moiret jots down his impressions of ombat operations, the effects of hunger and disease, the pursuit of a young Moslem lady and the day to dayclashing of East and West. A solid little book recommended for students of this campaign, the French Army and modern Egypt.
