Editorial Reviews

Review

"Having squatted beside Elena Skoko as she brought her daughter Earth-side, I feel I have seen Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess of Love, Music and Beauty, roar with her Lion nature.  Drunk on tenderness, endearment, lust and devotion, even when she was bent in pain, this woman sang! This book is a love story, spun for all women, read it, give it to your daughters to relish. Elena generously shares her evolution from Maidenhood to Motherhood.  She is still so young, yet as a storyteller she is a Crone, a 'keeper of time', a wise one." Ibu Robin Lim

"Refreshing, uplifting, and empowering - You won`t be able to put Memoirs of a Singing Birth down." - Natural Birth and Baby Care

"The book is truly a pleasant read and an inspiration for women who want to birth in their own way." - Authentic Parenting

"This is an interesting book to read if you enjoy reading birth stories. I love the inside view of birth in a different culture. It was poetically written, very descriptive and I enjoyed the love story of Elena, Roberto and their baby Koko. Thanks for sharing your birth experience with the world!" - Enjoy Birth

"Ms. Skoko fortifies the reader to trust in her body, know her options, and seek a more holistic birthing path. I recommend her book for inspiration, education, and empowerment." - Wonderfully Made Bellies And Babies

More About the Author

Her first book, Memoirs of a Singing Birth is available in English and Italian.

Format: Paperback
Inspiring, poetically written and very descriptive, this "little" book should be read not only by pregnant women, but by all women. It is in fact a journey into motherhood and also into womanhood. Elena wasn't sure if she was ready to be a mother, but she knew she wouldn't give her child a slapping-welcome in this world. While searching out on how to make this happen, she takes us to the magical Island of Bali, where Indonesian birth traditions meet her needs. She shares with us her feelings and emotions as well as every discovery she makes on her path. Giving birth can be as wonderful as this life is, a celebration worth singing over... Memoirs Of A Singing Birth left a trace in my heart and changed my perception of birth forever.

I found Elena's viewpoint and experience of birth to be uplifting and joyous. Her unexpected and quite sudden journey in the direction of birht made all that followed so much more interesting for the reader. Elena's thoughtfulness and humour are regular companions and she presents a viewpoint around pregnancy and birth that many will surely find illuminating.
