You Stepped Out Of A Dream + 4 More Songs - Wow!!!,

This review is from: Memorable & Mellow Bobby Hackett (Audio CD)
Please refer to my review for the product entitled: You Stepped Out Of A Dream. Memorable and Mellow contains all of these tracks with the addition of the tracks:
You Only Live Twice, When You Awake, On The Street Where You Live, and Nancy With The Laughing Face. This is the Bobby Hackett dream CD for the following reason: All 9 tracks on the CD Goodnight My Love are contained on the You Stepped Out Of A Dream CD. So, if you can grasp Memorable and Mellow, you get these 2 CDs plus 4 songs, all in one. Grand!!! In addition, I can recommend the next step up from Memorable and Mellow. See the sponsored links, or go to www.yestermusic.com for Music 'Til Dawn. Bobby Hackett is supported by 2 theater organs, one or another at any given time, with each organ played by 4 hands. There are also piano and guitar brought into the mix. These 2 organs were salvaged from demolition, and kept in 2 large barns. Columbia sent everyone involved out to the barns to make the recording. You will find this rapturous recording only at yestermusic.com and that is because the producer was there for the original recording. He obtained it from the vaults where it would likely have remained in obscurity. Bobby Hackett is at his very best here, with remastered sound that is clean and bright. Bobby Hackett's cornet stands alone on ballads just as Wild Bill Davison's does on romps and stomps. An absolute and irrevocable thrill awaits you!

If you love mellow trumpet songs go ahead and purchase this CD : The Memorable And Mellow Bobby Hackett. I'm going to list ALL 24 songs here for you now:
The Eyes of Love, Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams, I Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest, My Foolish Heart, You Only Live Twice, A Time For Love, The Lamp Is Low, When You Awake, Emily, My Funny Valentine, Laura, Delishous, On The Street Where You Live, The Love I Give To You, Close Your Eyes, All Through The Night, You Stepped Out Of A Dream, September Song, The Touch Of Your Lips, All Too Soon, Nancy, Goodnight My Love, If You Were Only Mine, Stars In MY Eyes. Having studied Trumpet in the 1960's and 70's in school I was told by my band and orchestra teachers early on to find a couple of professinal artists albums that I liked and try to listen to those and emulate their sounds. I happened to choose Bobby Hackett and Al Hirt from my Mom's collection of records. Later in my adult life I got the oppurtunity to meet and befriend Al Hirt. Never got to meet Bobby Hackett however I know that Al Hirt admired Hackett for that " Mellow Horn". Peace, Tommy "Gee" Gaston [...]

If you like romantic music, this will satisfy you... very "mellow", smooth. Bobby Hackett is SO good on the cornet.
My favorite cut is "My Foolish Heart". Don't hesitate on this one... better than most of the new stuff these days.

O.K. so 40 plus years ago I met this chick in calculus class. She came complete with two Bobby Hackett vinyl albums from her former boyfriend - Memorable and Mellow was one. The package was irresistable and all three were keepers. Before the remastered version became available, I tried replacing the well worn albums via the Jackie Gleason route. Those sounded like they were recorded in the Men's room at the Greyhound bus station. Don't torture yourself I said - the memory is too exquisite to pollute it with this junk.
Let me say this about that - when I listened to this remastered Memorable and Mellow, I did blink away a tear or two. There I was again: a callow youth in 1965, my true-love beside me, a quart of Colt 45 and impure thoughts. Thanks, Bobby. |
