Very well done!,
By Alex Garant (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Memorandum (Audio CD)
Memorandum is a very good doom record mostly because of the great piano work there is in it. While most bands only use keyboards to create an atmosphere, Lacrimas Profundere choosed instead to do something more original and simply play piano. The female vocals are almost absent from the record. So, if you are buying doom records only to hear female vocals, Memorandum is maybe not the album for you. Therefore, Lacrimas Profundere are not a cheap imitation of all those new bands that tend to sound like Tristania. Instead, the male vocalist is more focused on his own voice who alternates from melancholy to harsh vocals. Although most of the record is peaceful it does have heavier parts. First, you should listen to HELPLESSNESS or BLACK SWANS. Highly recommended to anyone who loves melodic sad songs.

After thier underground classic La Naissance, they come out with some different ideas. More produced sounding, not quite as heavy or sad but it is a pretty dark album. Interesting piano parts and a different vocal style that seems to work for a more "echoy" sound. This album is to be the last of thier true doom metal sound, and this album also is the beginning of thier gothic metal sound.

This is a good album,

If you're looking for your mainstream rock, this isn't it - you won't find a harpist in any mainstream rock band (of course). What they do offer is sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but mostly sometimes sad music. Good luck, hope this helps.
