5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with a PROPER burner
I have a 16x NEC-3540a. Burns fine at 16x. They should be reliable also considering the 2 year old 4x Memorex DVDRs I have still work perfectly. Though those are 4x, but I'll see. For those with problems, upgrade... to a good burner (Plextor, NEC, etc.) Burners are too cheap now to own anything below a 16x.

i ordered these 2 december '05, and use them with my panasonic DMR-E80H component DVD recorder to burn TV shows i record. my recorder is two years old, and these discs have worked fine in it without upgrading the firmware. i have had good luck with memorex media for this use for as long as i've owned my recorder; each spindle usually has a couple of duds in it, but for the price it's still a good deal.

Memorex makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. The data I record onto these lasts for years, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs, discs to record video and discs to record video. Great!

The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have data stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.

There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than 16x. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your DVD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the DVD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note. At least that's what I do.

Overall, Memorex blank DVD-R discs store data reliably over the years and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at 16x.

Use them in good health!

Memorex DVD-Rs have given me nearly flawless quality since I started using them two years ago. They copy at their rated speed, and never have a bad burn. Consistent quality at a reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Packaged Terribly, June 13, 2007
This review is from: Memorex 16X DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
No question Amozon.com has these dvd's for the cheapest price around. But if you plan to buy 300 or more be ready to recieve some broken dvd's and cases. the price is the only reason i buy them from amazon.com they really need to do a better job at packaging these disc for shipment.

I've been burning a lot of home movies lately and getting ready to reorder. Been using the Memorex DVD -R disks with no problem. Only one coaster, and that was my fault, not the disk's fault. Using a Lite-On DVD RW and it works just fine with these Memorex disks. Have not tried any other DVD -R disks, but have used several brands for CD-R burning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy with this Media, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Memorex 16X DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I have gone through more than one 100 pack of these DVD-Rs, and have not yet ended up burning a coaster to put my coffee on. Also, one thing I really like about these DVDs is they have a very nice configuration of lines on them to write on - this actually is a pretty important design feature.

But of course the most important thing is that the media copies data accurately and lasts long. So far, I've been completely satisfied with the quality of my burned DVDs and, while it hasn't been long enough to really tell, none have worn out yet.

So either go for these or the Verbatims - but between them, these at least look cooler :)
