It works as stated, the only problem was that i had to look up a lightscribe firmware update to get it to label the disc correctly. The update is free, and had no errors after that.

purchased this external drive in april 2011 because my hp/xp has a writeable cd drive but a player dvd. wanted to save space on my hp hard drive and delete some of my downloaded movies.

this memorex is fab! open box, plug into usb port and you are good to go. it has 2 usb plugs attachted and i initially used both but it is not necessary and now, i can still use my mouse.

this has been really USED! now i don't have to watch all my movies on my pc. i load them onto by drive (with special software) and play them on my panasonic or sony dvd players attached to my tvs.

great buy, fast service, and hopefully built to last. for what i have in mind for it, if it lasts a year, i will have gotten my monies worth. i have A LOT of movies.

Worked perfectly until the Arcsoft Total Media Extreme software said it had expired. Renewal cost $49.99! Now I'm stuck...

Apart from a waring to be prepared to order, receive and just plug the usb in - it may make you head spin..

Have not done any sort of full test. But immediate delivery, and HP 530 old laptop on windows Vista basic, through my USB HUB - it was recognized instantly, installed shockingly fast, and my impatient need to just "BURN SOMETHING" IT WORKED and made a disk that was read back by my laptops other non DVDR drive.

This is just a 30minute off the cuff review. But as a basic drive, it is worth it's price for that alone. Have not done a DVD writing test - data and CD just fine.

oh - lightweight, but not at all flimsy. Also, came in sealed genuine looking MEMOREX RETAIL TYPE OF PACKAGING - YOU COULD SEE THIS ON A SHELF AT ANY MAJOR CHAIN ELECTRONIC STORE - AND PICK IT ON THE NICE SOLID AND RELIABLE BOX AND ARTWORK.

This drive is easy to set up, fast and very portable. Swaps easily from one pc to another. By far the best I've experienced.
