3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, not great.
These are decent but do not compare to the cases you get when you buy a professional DVD. The case itself seems flimsy but it might just be my imagination. The plastic film on the outside is loose and flimsy as well as not put on properly on a few cases. The push-release button locks the disc in place fine but doesn't release it too easily. 5.0 out of 5 stars Crank it, spank it, smack it on the bing-bong., July 16, 2005
This review is from: Memorex 32021980 DVD Storage Cases 10 Pack (Electronics)
I own a great many pre-recorded DVDs and one thing I've learned above all else is that all DVD cases are not made the same. Some are very good, some mediocre, and some down right awful. Another issue that comes up is damage that can occur during the removal of those labels used to seal the actual disc inside the case, the one that warns potential thieves about the security device often enclosed within...especially annoying to me is when the adhesive from these labels remains on the case, rather than staying on the label once it is removed. By now you're probably thinking I'm of the retentive type, but I like to see myself as being particular (I know, I know, six of one, half dozen of the other), at least when it comes to certain things, like media storage...anyway, while looking into purchasing replacement DVD cases, I actually learned a few things...like the fact that DVDs, while similar to CDs, are, in fact, manufactured differently. It seems DVDs are actually two discs bonded together, and sometimes the process doesn't always bond the center hub of the DVD. This may not be a problem in and of itself, but if you were to use a CD case to store a DVD, the extra pressure required to remove the disc from a CD case could cause the hub to crack, and the loss of data could occur. I guess this is why most DVD cases I've seen have a simple push release mechanism that holds the disc in place.

When I bought these cases over other, similar bundled cases, I really didn't put a lot of thought into it, but ten cases for five bucks seemed like a pretty good deal, and Memorex was a brand name I recognized. The cases are very sturdy and snap closed together in a secure fashion. The hub/disc locking mechanism features three nodes with the push aspect attached to one node, and holds the disc in place with an authorative `snap'. When pushed, it affects said node to allow for release of the disc. Once the disc is in place, it sits within a circular protection zone on a slight, embedded lip, with the outer area featuring molded grooves to facilitate easy grasping of the edges of the disc. The inner cover of the case, opposite the disc area has two holders that allow printed material to be stored inside along with the disc. The outside of the case has a layer of transparent plastic, allowing for the insertion of printed material.

Inside one of the cases is included a bonus in that of a data disc featuring a Memorex software program titled exPressit, which provides disc labeling templates for just about every aspect you can imagine, and claims to work with both PC and Mac operating systems. Of course, for best results, the manufacturer recommends you use Memorex labels, but I'm sure they'd work with any labels available. All in all I'm very pleased with these replacement cases as they met my need, and I thought the price to be very reasonable.

You end up having to pry it off anyway so the push-release is redundant. Also seems like it will break after awhile.

Decent for home use but I would not recommend these if you're trying to use them in a professional setting.

I bought these for single discs of favorite movies. Plastic sleeve allows for printed matter. Push-button keeps discs securely in place. Good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty gosh darn good cases, March 12, 2008
This review is from: Memorex 32021980 DVD Storage Cases 10 Pack (Electronics)
I purchased these cases for a collection I have of costly DVDs (YMAA Jwing-Ming series of martial arts seminar) The cases these DVDs came in weren't to my satisfaction...the release mechanisms were somewhat intractable and each time I removed the DVD from the case I would have to bend the DVDs pretty severely. These DVD cases solved my problem. These cases have about everything you'd want in a case: easy release mechanism, ability to slip the old cover into the new sleeve (so the DVDs still look official). There is one thing that I don't like, however. On the inside of the case is a plastic tab build into the crease. The purpose, I assume, is to press down on the DVD in order to keep it level after closing. Sometimes the tab slips under the DVD and that worries me a bit. Maybe they thought too much on that concept. I haven't cut the tab off as I am careful when closing the cases, but one could easily remove the tab, I think. So I took 1 star off. But they're good cases, don't hesitate to purchase them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price but could've been SLIGHTLY better., March 3, 2008
This review is from: Memorex 32021980 DVD Storage Cases 10 Pack (Electronics)
I had bought these as replacement cases since I grab used games often and happen to stumble on a few copies where it looks like the previous owner took a good hacking to it. So if anyone is like me I like to do what I can to make any little bit of it seem good as new. Hey it makes me feel better what can I say?

For a 10 Pack the price isn't that bad really, my only criticism on the product is when placing the disks inside it took a little more than necessary effort to make sure they stayed in. Also the clear slip for your labels seems shockingly fragile. I had one case easily rip just by putting it down and stacking others ontop of it.

In the end I just had to remember these are replacements and would never be as great as the original case that got damaged. It was just a pity though because Memorex always seemed like an okay brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars durable, does their job well, January 14, 2009
This review is from: Memorex 32021980 DVD Storage Cases 10 Pack (Electronics)
I own a Nintendo Wii and had some games that are just in cardboard pouches (Link's Crossbow, Wii Sports, etc) along with some older DVD's. I bought these and printed out some labels on normal paper and I have myself a professional looking DVD and/or game case.

They are durable plastic (I stepped on one that fell on the floor and nothing happened to it) and are easy to remove the DVDs in and out of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Replacement Cases, January 4, 2009

I bought these to replace the DVD cases that your dvds comes with and these work great for this. The pack comes with 10 which for me were more than enough to replace my broken ones and they seem sturdy and well design. It also has clear plastic around the outside of it so you can transfer over the front artwork to basically make it seem like you never replaced your case at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great item, weird smell, March 27, 2010
This review is from: Memorex 32021980 DVD Storage Cases 10 Pack (Electronics)
This item is perfect for housing movies and software that need to stay safe, however, and this is just nit picky (and weird), but it has a weird barbecue smell... The smell is really potent and I had to spray it down with a deodorant spray just to be able to stand it. That could be just an isolated incident, but I believe it is the plastic. Other then that it is great! It is a lot better then the slim cases which is all anyone ever sells anymore, so I was happy to find them!

3.0 out of 5 stars As advertised, but not great, January 12, 2010

These boxes (cases) work for storing DVD's as they should, but the quality is not up to what I would expect from Memorex. The black plastic is light weight and the boxes are not all that uniform size-wise. Standard labels fit sometimes and don't fit sometimes. The clear film for holding labels was loose at the corners on some of them. I am sorry, but I really can't recommend these DVD boxes.

My one real beef with the product is the push button that holds the DVD in place. It's one of those kind that is kind of awkward to use. You have to press really hard and make sure all the edges are through. At least the price came down, though.
