These are the best CD-Rs I've found,

These CDs are amazing - far better than the TDKs I had used before, which surprised me because I've long preferred TDK cassettes over Memorex. Actually, I've preferred almost everything over Memorex, and I only bought these because it was such a good sale when I saw them, and because I had become so irritated with the outrageous fail rate of other CD makers. I bought this pack of 50. Out of the 20 or 25 I've burned, I've not had a single bad one, which is amazing in the world of CD-R media. They burn quickly and cleanly and without a problem; my CD-RW has never had a problem using them (which it sometimes has with others).I highly recommend these disks, and will not be using any other manufacturers any more (unless at some point Memorex proves itself unworthy). But when you have something that works so perfectly, what's the point of trying any other brand any more? There is no point. So I will use these exclusively. As a last irrelevant note, the black color, while not necessary, nor making a bit of difference to recording or playback, *is* really cool looking.

These Memorex blank CDs are simply the best combination anywhere of high quality and low cost. Three factors make these discs stand out as your best buy:First, they are rated for burning at up to 16x, which is nice for those with fast CD-ROM burners. Sometimes you'll find that substandard media won't REALLY burn as fast as the label claims, which is very annoying. With these Memorex discs, however, I've NEVER experienced a problem with diminished burn speed. They cook perfectly at 16x every time. Second is reliability. Out of my last spindle I had NOT A SINGLE DEFECTIVE CD. Not one defective CD out of fifty blanks! Quite remarkable, considering that many blank CD vendors consider a 10-15% failure to be acceptable. Finally, the low cost of these excellent discs- just fifty cents each- is hard to beat. I've seen other manufacturers offering spindles of fifty discs... but they were of vastly inferior quality.

Misinformation,

This isn't really a review, persay - but I've long since used the normal Memorex brand - I just purchased the Black CD-R's for the first time, mainly because of an interesting article. For those of you who say that the 'color' of the disc doesn't effect anything - well, you're wrong. A CD is reflective, that's how the laser reads the data. The less reflective (IE: Lighter color dye) the harder it is for the drive to read the data, where as more reflective (IE: darker color dye) makes it far easier. Why do you think Sony chose the black CD's for the playstation? It wasn't for the copy protection bit - it was because they used inexpensive lasers and it's easier for them to read the black CD's.

These are fantastic. I bought one of these 50-spindles, have gone through about 30 of them so far, without tossing one out because of an error. Every one of these has recorded my music and data without a hitch. As a bonus, they have a nifty black color instead of the usual silver, so you feel like you're holding little records(*) in your hands instead of CDs.(*) By the way, "records" were these round things that people used to use a LONG time ago to play "music", which was a collection of sounds that were made by people who used these things called "instruments" and had "talent", but I digress.

I got a spindle of black discs rather than the silver discs pictured, but the first 20 have burned fine for me as audio discs (not a bad one yet) -- they play perfectly in my car, on my small stereo at work, and my component stereo at home. I'm very happy with them.

Don't buy Memorex BLACK CD-R's,

This review is from: Memorex 32024750 CD-R, 80 Minute, 700 MB, 40x (Black, 50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
Just so you know, I bought these with the assumption that they were the silver disks listed in the picture above but I received the "Black" version and about the only thing I can use these for is recording music for music CD players and my HP 820 burner. That's it. It writes data to the disk fine, reads fine in the burner but when I try to read it in a another desktop or notebook w/o a burner, it cannot read the CD in data or audio format. I've used the silver version of these CD-R's and they work great on all my CD devices.

I usually don't review products (other than networking and security books), but I want to share my troubles with these CD-Rs. I have no problem burning to these CD-Rs, and I can read them in any CD drive I've tried. Unfortunately, my Thinkpad a20p's DVD drive does not recognize these black CD-Rs as valid media. At work, my Gateway Profile PC DVD drives can not recognize the black CD-R either. That problem severely degrades the usefulness of these CD-Rs. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this problem. I shared my findings with the maintainer of a CD media FAQ, and he stated he'd heard such problems before.

Solid!,
This review is from: Memorex 32024750 CD-R, 80 Minute, 700 MB, 40x (Black, 50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
These are the only disks I've found that never, never burn a clinker in my aged Iomega CD burner. I've tried other brands -- 16X Imation, yech -- and even other types of Memorex disks, and these are the best. Often with CD-R disks the problem is that the silver coating is transparent (hold one up to a strong light) and readers tend to have problems. These are pretty opaque, and I suspect that's why I've had such good luck with them. However, do NOT attempt to use the similar-sounding Memorex 16X 700MB/80 min Music CD-R disks for computer use. They are the utter worst.

As a "Memorex CD-R Media" Hater i was reluctant to buy them at first. Now im buying my second set of them because I loved the way they looked, and performed. On the technical part, I can say they seem to be made different from the regular white label ones, because on these ones the label didn't peel off after a month. I had no problem playing them on my mp3/car stereo, home stereo, DVD_ROM drive, home theather, not even on my sister's 5 year old boom box. A+, very impressive media.

Warning...Not compatiable with all burners!!!!!,
By Sue "Book Junkie" (Lancaster County, Pa) - See all my reviews

I have used alot of different types of burnable CD-Rs already, buying in both 50 and 100 lot spindles, from different manufactures. I have used them to back up my cd collection, my pictures and to back up stuff on my computer. And not once have I had the problems that I've had with these black discs. The burner simply refuses to recognize them. I tried the first one, figured it was simply a bad one, tried the next one, even went to the middle of the stack and pulled one out. Not one of them was recognized!
What is the problem? And why isn't there a warning of some sort. I read alot of good things about these "black" cd-rs, about the sound quality and such. And now find out its nothing but a selling hype. I am extremely disappointed. |
