Be careful....,
By Mike in California (Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 2.4x DVD+RW (25 Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I own the Gateway AR-230 DVD recorder. I purchased this 25 pack of Memorex DVD+RW's thinking it was a great bargain......too bad it wasn't. The first one I used worked fine, but this only set me up to record something using my timer only to come home and find that the DVD had a write error. The recording was lost, and so was the DVD as it wouldn't read even as it tried to format. I figured it was a one time thing, but the next two Memorex DVD+RW's I tried both failed as well. One would stop after recording for 30 seconds after formatting, and the other couldn't even be read. Then, of course, I thought something was wrong with my DVD recorder, but my Verbatim DVD+RW's work great. If only they were the same price! : ).....anyway, make sure these suckers work with your deck before spending your hard earned $$.

UPDATE!!
In my previous review I told about how these discs had been reliable for me up until my most recent spindle. Amazon sent me a replacement spindle and I've had the same problems, so I did a little research. I found a nice free application called DVD Identifier that scans discs and reports details such as the true manufacturer. The discs I'd had such good luck with in the past are actually manufactured by Ricoh. The discs I've had such trouble with in the last two spindles are not. They're made by a company called InfoDisc. Googling confirms compatibility issues with InfoDisc and a multitude of burners, including my Lite-On (though my Pioneer and Sony can't write video successfully to them either). In short, not all discs are created equal, especially rebranded ones. Memorex apparently went for a cheaper manufacturer and thus is now selling inferior discs. I'll be sticking with true Ricoh discs in the future. -------------------------------------- I'd picked up a spindle of these locally after purchasing a lite-on DVD burner and had good luck making backups of my existing DVD collection, so when I ran out I figured that I'd order some more. Why mess with a good thing? I set out to continue my backup creation with my new spindle of discs and found that the next four movies I copied, while supposedly burning successfully, could not be played by my DVD player or either of my DVD equipped computers. To confirm my fears I grabbed one of the already written discs from my previous spindle and used the ripped data that had failed to successfully write to one of the new discs and voila; no problems at all. After a few more frustrating tries I determined that the entire new spindle of discs simply weren't going to properly receive the data, and I've now requested a defective return from Amazon. Could be that I simply got an "off" spindle of discs, as the previous spindle were fine, but the next batch I buy will be local to facilitate easy return if it turns out Memorex has slacked on quality.

Great For Standalone DVD Recorders And Cloning Drives,
By Quentin Deverill "QED" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews

I picked up 6 packs of these Memorex +RW's from CompUSA (150 total). They work great in my Liteon LVW5005 DVD recorder. I also used them to Ghost my hard drive. 40GB drive filled up about 5 discs when compressed. Hey, 2.4x isn't that slow...about 22 min a disc vs about 15min for 4x. Not worth the price difference to go 4x (.40, .50 or more $$ per disc extra for no-name discs). I haven't had a failed burn yet with these Memorex discs. The fact that they're re-usable up to a 1,000 times makes these a great value.

worse product I ever bought..,
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 2.4x DVD+RW (25 Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I bought 3 - 25 dvd +rw media. I tried to take back up of my data on atleast 10 different media with my sony 700ul drive and out of 10 only one worked. Some of them I can not read after burning, some of them I can not burn at all... Do not waste your money and time behind this product...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I've used several hundred of these Memorex DVD+RW's with a Cyberhome recorder, no problems, as compared to the Memorex printable disks and a few other brands. In fact, I no longer buy any other type because of the convenience, price and reliability. As for the person who quoted Memorex tech support as saying +RW has a data retention rate of only 5 years, I checked with them today and they say, "The media will last 70 plus years, however you should check the data every 5 years to ensure quality." I think that need to check is good advice for every type of storage media, so I'm sticking with +RW as a personal preference for the way I record. I essentially record everything and decide later whether or not to keep it.

I bought some Memorex Dvd+rws a few months ago and they worked great. I used them in my Go video R6640 to recored stuff off my tivo, and I did not have a bad one in the bunch. I was starting to run low so I got a new 25 pack (paid $30). These new ones looked a little diffrent, the spindle had a gold wrapper, but they were still memorex Dvd+rws, they worked well before so why not buy them again. Boy was that a mistake the new ones did'nt work well at all, I went thru 5 of them trying to get them to work, nothing would record on them. I thought It was my recorder at first then I used one of the old disks to record and it worked fine. I don't know what memorex did but I won't be buying them again. I see the new ones are made in Taiwan, I don't know where the old ones were made. Now I'll see if can get a refund from Best Buy or a least an exchange.

I own a Philips DVDR-75 Recorder for over a year now. The ONLY discs I've used in this machine are the Memorex 2.4X DVD+RW discs. They have worked flawlessly. In over 175 DVD+RW discs burned on this machine I have only encountered 1 Disc to be defective. In the beginning portion (center) of the disc there is a slight factory blemish which causes an "error" in recording during the beginning of the disc. After this area the disc is perfect however. I continue to purchase these discs for all of my recording needs. I highly recommend these discs to anyone. They're my only choice so far. 175+ with only 1 defective...not bad by any standard.

BEWARE - Cheap, yet, but don't work in many DVD burners,

Add the Sony line of DVD Burners to the list that these disc's do not work in... I have a 25pack that is boat anchor and worthless to me! Not one disc is recognized by Sony drives. Will have to go back to Fuji... Memorex has apparently made a huge mistake and ruining their reputation buy going on the cheap for manufacturers.

Unreliable!,
By Michael Ray (North Hills, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 2.4x DVD+RW (25 Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
Bought these for recording on my Sony DVD Recorder. First problem encountered: does not record from timer set programs. Second frustrating problem: I will frequently record from TiVo programs onto these discs, then try to play them back and come up with the same disc error problems ("disc error, unreadable, or disc dirty). Some of the discs work without a hitch, then the next few will be completely unusable! I will not buy these Memorex discs again and recommend you do not waste your money on them either.

Very reliable product. Started to get blocky towards the end of the spindle, the last three actually. Not bad for under $20. Will purchase again.
