5.0 out of 5 stars Great media for a great price!
Half of the spindle is gone but not one coaster! I have a progressive Panasonic DVD player, bought in 2000, that plays them flawlessly. Eventhough they're rated at 4x, these babies burn at 8x on my 8x Teac DVD+R/RW burner with no problems. I've backed up my kids DVDs and all of them plays like the original... I also transfered most of our home videos to DVD format...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Consistent
I previously purchased (3)25-disc spindles of this media.
It provided flawless back-ups using LITEON 411S & NERO 6 @4X.
I bought this 50-disc spindle and my success rate has dropped to around 50%. They freeze in my player.
Some of the discs are stuck together on the spindle, which is strange.
I guess I need try to return the remaining 25 discs for...

I also transfered most of our home videos to DVD format using these discs and so far, 3 out of 4 DVD players in the house plays them. The only exception is our very first DVD player that was bought in 1998 or 1999 (if I'm not mistaken - and yes it costed us more than $600!). I'm not blaming this on the media as this DVD player (another Panasonic) was one of the first-wave DVD players to ever first hit the consumer market...

With me saying this, it is important to remember that some media are more compatible with certain units/burners compared to others. This holds true with CDRW burners and it's not any different here. You also have to remember that if you have a DVD burner that is rated at 2x, you may need to upgrade your firmware in able to burn onto 4x media reliably. And also, don't forget that some older stand alone DVD players may have compatability problems with these disc and not play them at all.

In the end, my advice would be to buy a 2-pack of DVD media and try them out first. Yes, they're expensive but they will serve your wallet better in the end. If they work, then it'll be ok to proceed onto buying spindles. And if they don't, then at least you won't be banging your head on the wall for buying 50 pieces of useless junk... err I mean coasters!

4.0 out of 5 stars writes flawlessly at 8x with Plextor 708A, April 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I'm usually leery of CMC media but I was pleasantly surprised. How do I know it's a flawless write? I created a CRC for each file before write and compared it to the CRC I created for each file on the written CD. The files were identical. I've done this dozens of times and am satisfied with the quality of the 8x burn.

HOWEVER .... (my) Xbox doesn't like Memorex DVD+R at any speed. With mememorex it will only read DVD-R media. It reads other DVD+R media without issue.

4 stars because this is a lower spec media. "Is it real quality or is it memorex"

I first tried these blank DVDs and they did not work for me and I was very frustrated. There was clear labeling on the package that new firmware was needed for many DVD writers to work with these discs. However, my DVD writer was a variation of what was listed. So I tried about 10 discs and only 1 worked. Tonight I downloaded the firmware for a variation of my HP drive and all works fine.

Bottom line - expect to download the firmware and these will work great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Verification errors not just due to disc quality, November 5, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I've been using Memorex DVD+Rs for a couple of years now. The only time I get disc verification errors, as some people have experienced, was when I first started using DVDs as a backup medium. I found that it was only when I tried to pack the disc full (without leaving much space left) that I experienced these errors. The amount of space seemed to correspond with the number of files that were being burned and not with the actual amount of data (possibly due to the amount of space needed to record the file directory, I'm assuming, based only on my empirical observations). Since then, I've consistently left about 250-300Mb free on each disc that I burn, and I've had essentially zero problems ever since. Hope that helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Burned Great on my PLextor 8x PX-708A, July 27, 2004
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
This is the first media i have used to burn dvds. I currently own a Plextor PX-708A (in my opinion the best 8x burner on the market) and plextor makes a 12x which i believe is also top of the line. If you buy a burner definitely go plextor, its worth the extra bucks. Anyways, with my 8x burner these 4x memorex dvds have worked great for me. I can even burn at 8x on 4x media! of course there is always a risk of it being a coaster. Currently i have burned about 25 of these disks, no coasters, it could be that the plextor burner is just top of the line which i am guessing is the truth. But so far no memorex coasters. I am giving this media a 4 star rating because i believe that they are cheap... the edges are all bumpy and definitely not smooth. Its not the greatest media, but it will do. If you are looking for great media go for taiyo yuden or verbatim, otherwise if you are cheap get memorex and try it out, the price isnt bad. Good luck guys.

I will not buy these again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Memorex have a high rate errors, January 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I have used many brands of DVD+R/DVD-R. Memorex seems to have a high rate of unsuccessful burns. I would recommend another brand. TDK seems to be my favorite. Never any problems and more affordable.

5.0 out of 5 stars They simply work, August 6, 2005

These DVD+R's are the most reliable recordable media I've bought. Unlike generic or unknown brands, Memorex media are more resistant to scratches. At this time, the only reason you'd consider buying these 4x speed DVD+R's is most likely because of an older DVD burner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Check your hardware/Software prior to purchasing blank media, February 14, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
... Especially for DVDs. These have been working perfectly for me. I haven't wasted one disk. I had similar problems before when I purchased the incorrect media. I would try and try to burn a dvd and got an error every time. After tons of trouble-shooting, I realized that I needed this type for the hardware that I have. I haven't had one problem since I changed. CHECK YOUR HARDWARE/SOFTWARE prior to purchasing to make sure it is all compatible. It will save you a lot of time and trouble.

1.0 out of 5 stars COASTERS!, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD+R 4.7GB (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I purchased this item and was excited to get them, but burning my first DVDs.. they're all coasters! ARG.. pass Memorex and go for a more expensive media, like Verbatim.
