Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

This 50-pack of 4x DVD-R discs consists of write-once, single-sided discs that store up to 4.7 GB of data and approximately 120 minutes of DVD quality video--that's more than six times as much data as will fit on a recordable CD. You can transfer your home movies from VHS or 8mm cassettes, back-up computer hard drives and large files, or stuff them chock full of MP3 music files and JPEG image files from your digital camera. A one-year warranty protects you against defects in the near term, while the discs' rated archival life of 70 to 100 years means you can rest easy about the future of your data.

Special Note: Using new recordable discs (4X for DVD-R) in 1X-2X Pioneer manufactured DVD drives and DVD recorders may cause damage to the DVD drive or recorder and possibly to the loaded 4X disc. The source of the problem is a firmware "bug" in certain DVD-R/RW drives and recorders, and not with the media itself. A firmware update is required to avoid potential damage to the units and discs.

The following products may be affected:
Pioneer DVR - A03 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - A04 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 103 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 104 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 7000 DVD Recorder
Pioneer PRV - 9000 Professional DVD Recorder
Apple and Compaq Systems with DVD-R/RW Drives (Pioneer DVR-103 & DVR-104)

Anyone who owns or uses any of the above listed products should perform the free firmware update immediately, prior to using the new 4X DVD-R discs. Firmware updates can be accomplished in the following two ways:
For computer drives: A free update utility can be downloaded at www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/

For computer drives and stand-alone DVD recorders:
A free update disc can be ordered at www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/ or by calling toll-free 1-800-421-1623

What's in the Box
50 DVD-R discs, 1 two-piece storage case, and a paper insert with product details.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the negative reviews, September 3, 2004

This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
There are two types of people re memorex Dvd-rs. THose who are smart enough to know what media works with their burners and those who are absolutely clueless.

Those with Pioneer burners should stick with minus media as that is the format that Pioneer used during the early days of the burners.
THose with sony burners should stick with plus media as that is the format that Sony used before the double format burners.

If you get crappy burns with a Sony burner using minus media then don't blame the media. Blame the burner, even if it is a multi-format burner like the ancient DRU 500AX.

This comment is in response to the fellow below who said that his SOny DRU 500AX has good results with TDK+Rs. WELL BIG SURPRISE! That is plus media, media that is native for a sony. I have a DRU500AX as well and I have had bad burns 2 out of 4 or even 3 out of 4 using the much vaunted TDK Media. The TDK Media I was using was minus media. Even though the Sony 500AX is a multi-format burner these burners are notorious for being finicky with minus media (even with the so called wonderful TDK media).

I currently use a Pioneer burner and have had no reason to use plus media even though my pioneer is a multiformat burner. If you are like me and use a Pioneer burner exclusively and are making backups of movies for your viewing pleasure then these Memorex DVD-R is the way to go. You can't beat the price OR the quality.

There is only one burner worth buying on the market and that is the pioneer. Fuhgettabout Sony. They're crap. Crap burners will have crap results with any media.

This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
Bought a 50 spindle at a local retailer to use with my NEC 1300A dual format burner. Burns clean and consistent at 4x (external firewire) without a single failure. Burned 25 so far and every disc is compatible with my Sony 5 disc DVD player. I would highly recommend this media!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
Don't believe the bad review. This is decent stuff. I have gone through 2 spindles of 50 and have not had any problems whatsoever. One word for the dude who is using the 104 to burn dvds. UPGRADE!

I use an aging but good Pioneer 105 to burn the Memorex 4x media and have had flawless results. They burn at 4x as rated on the pioneer 105 and have yet to use them on the sony dru 500, so I can't say whether they are rated 4x on the sony.

No pixelation, no freezing, no problems. A good disc at a good price. I have played them on two sony standalones (one ancient and one fairly new) and they play without a hitch.

If you are having problems with this media then I suggest you get into the 21st century and upgrade your dvd burner and or get better burning software.

dvd shrink + Record Now Max = flawless dvds
