2.0 out of 5 stars CMC disks are crap
I would avoid these discs. I have been using these discs for some time doing backups. Recently, I've had a few problems and decided to look at these further. I noticed another review that said that the discs are made by multiple companies under the Memorex brand as are others like TDK, etc.. There are two types of people re memorex Dvd-rs. THose who are smart enough to know what media works with their burners and those who are absolutely clueless.

Those with Pioneer burners should stick with minus media as that is the format that Pioneer used during the early days of the burners.

THose with sony burners should stick with plus media as that is the format that Sony used before the double format burners.

If you get crappy burns with a Sony burner using minus media then don't blame the media. Blame the burner, even if it is a multi-format burner like the ancient DRU 500AX.

This comment is in response to the fellow below who said that his SOny DRU 500AX has good results with TDK+Rs. WELL BIG SURPRISE! That is plus media, media that is native for a sony. I have a DRU500AX as well and I have had bad burns 2 out of 4 or even 3 out of 4 using the much vaunted TDK Media. The TDK Media I was using was minus media. Even though the Sony 500AX is a multi-format burner these burners are notorious for being finicky with minus media (even with the so called wonderful TDK media).

I currently use a Pioneer burner and have had no reason to use plus media even though my pioneer is a multiformat burner. If you are like me and use a Pioneer burner exclusively and are making backups of movies for your viewing pleasure then these Memorex DVD-R is the way to go. You can't beat the price OR the quality.

There is only one burner worth buying on the market and that is the pioneer. Fuhgettabout Sony. They're crap. Crap burners will have crap results with any media.

Bought a 50 spindle at a local retailer to use with my NEC 1300A dual format burner. Burns clean and consistent at 4x (external firewire) without a single failure. Burned 25 so far and every disc is compatible with my Sony 5 disc DVD player. I would highly recommend this media!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
Don't believe the bad review. This is decent stuff. I have gone through 2 spindles of 50 and have not had any problems whatsoever. One word for the dude who is using the 104 to burn dvds. UPGRADE!

I use an aging but good Pioneer 105 to burn the Memorex 4x media and have had flawless results. They burn at 4x as rated on the pioneer 105 and have yet to use them on the sony dru 500, so I can't say whether they are rated 4x on the sony.

No pixelation, no freezing, no problems. A good disc at a good price. I have played them on two sony standalones (one ancient and one fairly new) and they play without a hitch.

If you are having problems with this media then I suggest you get into the 21st century and upgrade your dvd burner and or get better burning software.

dvd shrink + Record Now Max = flawless dvds

5.0 out of 5 stars Best media available, even for a higher price, June 7, 2004

This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
This is absolutely the BEST media out there. For ther person asking before, this burns at 4X speed on the Sony DRU-500AX burner with NO problems. You get VERY FEW coasters with this media using the picky Sony DRU-500AX. Fast, reliable and no skipping. Record-Now DX and DVD Shrink software is used to make great backups. Great for data. I have heard great reviews by MANY others on many other websites. You CANT GO WRONG with this media. Way better than Princo and other cheapie store brand media that are always on sale (like the ones CompUSA sells). For under $1/disc, PLEASE spend the extra money on these blanks. I know you can get other media for cheaper if you look around but you cant complain if you are getting media that works flawlessly for under a buck. Trying to save any more money is just being unreasonably cheap and will cost you in the long run. Buy these. Only TDK (great media) can keep pace with these blanks

2.0 out of 5 stars CMC disks are crap, December 24, 2004

I would avoid these discs. I have been using these discs for some time doing backups. Recently, I've had a few problems and decided to look at these further. I noticed another review that said that the discs are made by multiple companies under the Memorex brand as are others like TDK, etc.. I used to DVD info and noticed that my most recent purchase is made by CMC and I'm having problems with some of the discs including burn errors. One disk has strange ring in the die. I have the NEC 1300a burner. I also having some trouble playing backups on the same drive on my computer. Less trouble playing on my Sony DVD player. Just based on this (not a clear indication of what you're getting when you purchase), I would go with something else. These discs are not cheap enough for this reason.

This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 4x DVD-R (50-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
I have used the memorex 4x dvd-rs for close to a year now. I have had successful burns with every one of the two hundred I have purchased from Amazon.com. I have used a pioneer 105 to burn my movies and they all come out great. No pixelation or freezing at the edge(end of the movie) of the disc that you get with inferior quality discs. I have used these discs on three sony players and they work flawlessly. They also have no probs running on two different computers.

Note: I also have a sony DRU 500AX (I purchased this before I purchased the pioneer 105), like the reviewer below and I have had nothing but problems with the sony dru 500AX which is VERY VERY Picky with media. Let it be known that the Sony dru 500 is a biased towards PLUS media (As sony adopted the plus format)and will come up with problems when trying to burn with MINUS dvd media. If you have a plus writer stick to Plus media for less problems, or just avoid getting a sony drive in the future.

I no longer use the sony writer except to write data. I use the pioneer to burn all my movies and they ALL work!

I guess I'm plugging Pioneer drives too!

I am burning these Memorex DVD-R with a Sony DRU-510, DVD Shrink with Nero 6.0 Ultra and have yet to burn an unreadable disk. The backup copies work in various model PC's as well as Panasonic CV-47, CyberHome and Sony DVP-575P home units.
All I can say is that the back-up process is slow and tedious and you get what effort you put into it. If you take your time and pay attention to the details you shouldn't run into any compatibilty problems.
Check out www.dvdrhelp.com. Great site for help on all sorts of DVD issues.

I have now gone through 300 discs with only one failure and I suspect that was my own fault. (Web-surfing while burning) I have a Pioneer DVR-105 and they burn beautifully.
