4.0 out of 5 stars These discs are very good.
Another reivewer complained bitterly about these discs, but the problem seemed to be that the person was using DVD-RW disks. Although it's an odd complaint for a review of DVD+RW discs, it points out that you need to be aware of the proper format. I can't claim to know all the ins and outs of formatting issues, but I do know that if your DVD recorder takes +R/+RW discs,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very unreliable
Very unreliable .......... I have used DVD RW and CD RW Memorex disks on multiple computers and DVD recorders. I find that they.....1) don't last....get about 50 re-recordings NOT 1500 2) may crap out on any occasion.......multiple CD RW's with critical material would NOT read on multiple computers.

AVOID MEMOREX DVD RW & CD RW DISKS!!

Another reivewer complained bitterly about these discs, but the problem seemed to be that the person was using DVD-RW disks. Although it's an odd complaint for a review of DVD+RW discs, it points out that you need to be aware of the proper format. I can't claim to know all the ins and outs of formatting issues, but I do know that if your DVD recorder takes +R/+RW discs, you shouldn't use -R/-RW discs, and vice versa.

In terms of their rewriteability, I used one disc to record two hours of music videos (SP mode) every night for several months. After about 150-200 recordings I started to notice poorer quality, but only in the SP mode. It still seemed fine in HQ mode (i.e., one hour per disc).

My only problem with these discs is that they are a bit pricey. On the other hand, I've had consistently good quality from the several dozen that I've purchased.

UPDATE: This review was originally for DVD+RW discs, but the picture and "review from" line suggests it was for DVD-RW discs. Also, after a couple of years I still use Memorex DVD+RW discs for everyday recording--and they are much cheaper these days!

4.0 out of 5 stars Memorex stands behind their products., December 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
I purchased 2 packs of this product. Some of the DVDs contained in the package were defective however Memorex did stand behind their product and replaced them for me. I doubt other less known companies would stand behind their product like Memorex did. I will purchase more products from them in the future because of this.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
I've bought these five Memorex dvd-rw on Amazon. All five of them are very good so far. To write and rewrite and rewrite on 3 disks and they are all good. I've used them with new Sharp 300U Dvd-recorder with 80GB HDD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless recording with Sharp DV-SR3U, January 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
Just a quick note that these discs work flawlessly in my Sharp DV-SR3U recorder. And when I record+finalize in "Video" mode (not "VR" mode), they play back perfectly on all of my friends' and relatives' DVD players.

I recently tried cheaper DVD-RW media from TDK, but my recorder rejected them. And yes, I know the difference between -RW and +RW. Apparently, "data" media and "video" media are distinct, even though both are labelled as "DVD-RW". Video recorders like mine want video media like this. Caveat emptor!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Plextor PX-708A Drive, April 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
These disks simply do not work with the Plextor-708A DVD writer, even with the latest firmware upgrade. When I called Plextor for some guidance, they told be never to use this brand. I switched to TDK and had no problems after that.

4.0 out of 5 stars not universally compatable, March 18, 2004

while not so much the fault of the disks themselfs but rather the -rw format itself. You may find earlier (older) dvd drives including set top boxes will not read this format.

i use -rw's more for replay on the burner then for use on set top boxes, or for sending to family and friends. Using them to get the format and feel then burn to a -r disk. This is the most availble brand and is recomended for most inhouse uses. I find the -r the most compatable, and the +rw format the least.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague - they don't work, October 2, 2003
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
These discs are in a word - USELESS. I would urge anyone considering purchasing these discs to first run a search on google for Memorex, DVD-RW and problems. There are a lot of users out there who have found these discs do not work - all using various DVD writers. I was using the DVD+RW by Memorex on my Sony DRX-500ULX no problem. Because these were out of stock, I ordered 50 Memorex DVD-RW. The first didn't work, so I tried to format the second (tried Nero, DLA). That didn't work, checked the firmware on my drive - yep, bang up to date from the Sony website. So I tried a third, no joy. Having read all the complaints about these discs I contacted Memorex to ask their help. They wrote back and said there was nothing they could do, the drive was the problem not the discs. If that's the case - why are there so many people with different drives (Pioneer, NEC, Sony) all suffering the same problem using Memorex DVD-RW discs. So I am left with 9 unopened boxes of DVD-RW discs that don't work. Useless customer service, even worse product. Save your time and money and buy another brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Junk, Avoid, March 30, 2006
By
Tall Paul (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
Just like all other DVD media Memorex offers, this is total junk. I can't believe CompUSA would carry such an inferior product. Yes, the discs worked great for about a year. Then the dye totally disintegrates, after only 10 erases and re-writes. As you can you see, the warranty is only a year so I wasted my money. Memorex should state on the package "Discs will only work for year or after 10 re-writes". What a scumbag company

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE - but CONSISTENTLY horrible, April 25, 2011
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB DVD-RW Media (5-Pack) (Electronics)
At least Memorex is consistent. I just got another box of these and the second box is just as crappy as the 1st. They should be ashamed of themselves from even attempting to sell this junk. These disks do not work. Period. New computers, old computers, burners, whatEVER... Memorex RW DVDs are absolute trash.
