5.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Brand of DVD
This is one of the good brands out there. This should last decades, maybe a century or more, according to some experts. Just store them in a cool, dry place and they just might last a couple hundred years.

1.0 out of 5 stars Problems working with Toshiba 5272
I recently changed dvd burners to use a toshiba 5272 8x burner. I was hoping to use this media, with its excellent price, but found that although the disks would write, they were not readable. I have used other brand 8x +R disks without trouble. These disks might work well with other recorders, but they don't with the Toshiba. I would also suggest that you check out...

I would also suggest that you check out http://www.cdrinfo.com before deciding which media to buy, since they provide great information.

Note: Memorex says they are working with Toshiba to come out with new drivers to make it compatible.

I use this brand of DVD+R on my Plextor PX-712A, with the latest firmware available that I downloaded on 12/06/04, and I have had no problems with it at all. Also works just great on my brother's PX-708. Burned discs even work in my mom's Sony DVD player.

I have burned many DVDs of different brands without any problem in the past. But this new Memorex DVD+R 8x media does not work for me. Even though the media can be written without any reported error, a 60 minutes DVD movie play starts jittering after 30+ minutes on the same DVD-writer as well as my consumer dvd player. I have tried 3 disks with different movies and they all have this same problem. But the exact same DVD copies on my old Memorex DVD+RW 4x media have no such reading problem at all.

I have also updated my DVD-writer to the latest firmware, but the reading problem still exists. So be sure your DVD drive can use this new media before you buy it.

Great product but very difficult to find 8x compatible anymore. 16x has taken over. I hope to purchase more from this seller as long as they still have them on their shelves. So far very satified. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Pay More!?, July 25, 2006
This review is from: Memorex 4.7GB 8x DVD+R Media (25-Pack Spindle) (Electronics)
This DVD burning isn't as cut and dried as some would like you to believe. However, just because you get a bad burn doesn't mean it is the discs. There is a whole bunch of stuff going on in your computer that can affect the burn.

I have a Dell 1.2 ghz, with a Lite-On 8x drive, running Nero 6 OEM. Pretty generic, but these Memorex 8x and now 16x discs burn just fine. In fact, I have burnt about 600-800 of these discs and have had very few fall-outs. Not enough to justify buying the "better" quality discs.

Now for the caveat: I did have one spate of problems, caused by a not so well behaved antivirus program. I tossed out the antivirus program and went over to Avast!(it's free, check with Microsoft). Problem solved even though I run Winamp and a logging environmental sampling program while burning discs.

We burn hundreds of discs for a hospital lecture series. They are being played on all sorts of equipment, including some pretty banged up junk. So far I have not received one complaint about the discs only suggestions about the content.

Before you spend big bucks on some "better" disc, pop up your task manager in XP and see if there is some runaway task that needs some discipline. Also, if you must run "better" discs then do a surface test in Nero. I bet the "better" disc will look very close to failure if the Memorex failed.

If you are considering purchasing these DVD+R's through the Amazon seller called "antonline_com" (which was the only choice at the time of this writing) then make sure you check the S&H charges first.

Antonline charges 6.99 per shipment PLUS 0.99 per pound!!!

I have a SONY DRU-710A 16x burner. So far I have had very good success with this 8x media and it is reading fine off two different DVD players in my home. So far I have used up an entire spindle and am pleased.
