Memorex 4GB USB Travel Drive

I've owned a dozen USB drives over the past couple years, and this one is the most awkward to use and poorly made.

The flip-open cover is made of very cheap plastic and begs to be broken off - and I guarantee you with normal use, it will. The cover also makes it hard to plug into tight spaces, especially if you have USB ports on the back of your computer.

It was only days after the cover broke off that the external shell housing the main unit split down the seam and seperated. Now all that's left of my USB drive is the internal board. It still works, but who knows for how long.

I don't abuse my drives. I used this one maybe a dozen times a week.

These drives are great! I bought two at the same time, a 4BG and 2GB. The 2GB has lasted over a year and I have yet to run out of space. I use it several times, daily. Unfortunately, the 4GB did not last as long because it was stolen... Hey, it was a really nice flash drive.

I have had this USB drive for about 2months now. I think it's a great product. I use it a few times daily. And I don't have to worry about loosing the cap which is great.

So, I'm taking clothes out of the dryer this AM and what do I find - my 13 year old's Memorex Flash Drive in the dryer. It went through a cold wash cycle and then was dried along with the clothes. I pop it in my laptop's USB port and wala - it worked. All info is still on the drive. I really thought that was amazing. Can you say commercial for the product? 5 stars baby - 5 stars indeed.

My wife bought a few of these things, and they all broke within days of use. I took the liberty of cracking the most recent one open to find out why these things are garbage. The leads off of the connector aren't properly soldered to the board. When you solder something, the solder should wet both surfaces instead of appearing as a disconnected glob. (The connector leads are much larger than the contacts on the board and tend to cool the surfaces too much.) It is a manufacturing flaw that they should have figured out before selling it, but apparently the manufacturer let greed control their decision instead. It's time to look for another brand.

I bought this in the 1GB and will be purchasing the 4GB. After using other flash drives, these feel to be the most practical. I mean, most of them are relatively all the same. With the exception of design. The San Disk ones are not great, since you apply pressure to push the usb connector out. If that breaks, you're screwed and you'll have to jimmy it. Yet, the connectors opening is exposed to whatever lint you have in your pocket, etc. The other designs are faulty, because once you lose the cap, you pretty much have an unprotected connector. Now, with these Memorex flip open travel drives, you get enough protection for the connector and chances are you won't ever lose something that is designed to protect it to some degree. I perfer this design overall, and the price is just as good as most other manufacturers.

I am very happy with this product and I received my product very fast.
I will order again when I have the need.

I got this for one of my customers, and I just delivered it without opening the package. It seemed to be going well, but then I go t a call a couple weeks later, and she told me the copy failed because the device was write protected. I asked her if the device had a write-protect switch on the side, and she said yes. She took out the card, slid the switch, put it back and tried again, and the copy completed.

So it has a write-protect switch. Nice feature.

I purchased this usb travel drive in December because my son broke the other USB on accident. I spent $50 on the last one so I decided to go cheaper and keep it put up so my little ones could not get a hold of it. And I did just that. I kept it on my key hook and I saved all my work from the last semester, papers, notes the whole nine yards. However when I went to use it this morning and it just stop working. It wouldn't blink when you insert in the usb slot nor will work in my desktop or notebook. I would not recommend it for anyone who is saving important information. It's not reliable. Not only am I out of great papers and notes, I am now going to have purchase another drive. I think I'll go back the expensive ones, cheap is not the way to go.

I've been using this travel drive for several weeks now and I have no problem with it. I like how there's no cap to lose.
