ONLY THE LABEL IS BLACK. I HAVE BEEN MISLED, CONNED, AND CHEATED!
Out of a 50 pack, I ended up with about 6 coasters. Not horrible, but not great either.
These discs have a tendancy to be "noisy" when read from -- the thickness and size of the discs, despite being standard, must be off by a slight margin since they end up rattling around inside of drives at higher speeds (32x+). Other vendor's discs don't seem to do this.
These discs do not perform very well under high speed operations (32x+) either; lots and lots of media re-reads. Again, other vendor's discs seem to perform OK.
But the worst part, in my opinion, is that there's no writing surface on the label side of the disc! It's almost completely (99%) black. How are you supposed to write on the disc what the contents are?! Oh right, there's a 1cm strip along the edge of the CD (curved none the less) where you can write. Thus you're forced to buy stickers that go on the disc (which end up making the discs unbalanced in weight, thus making even more noise than mentioned above).
I'd have given these discs 3 stars had the quality been better, but the lack-of area to write on is appalling. I really don't know what Memorex was thinking.

No. These CDs did not have black bottoms as indicated in the description. If I had known that, I wouldn't have ordered them.Published 19 days ago by Amazon Customer
These are not the Memorex Black CD-R that I've used for years, which are black on both sides. They're normal CD-R with a black colored top. Read morePublished 1 month ago by T. Sniffin
Many people have purchased these black CD-Rs because they have found, as I have, that they have a lower error rate and superior sound quality to the silver CDs. Read morePublished 5 months ago by R.O.
The Memorex CD-R discs are not correct. There is something very strange about this package of discs. They are labeled CD-R Media Black with the same shrink wrap cover. Read morePublished 6 months ago by DDPres
