5.0 out of 5 stars Great money saver
These disks DO NOT come with individual hard cases, but I never use them. They come with 4 storage cases (5 md's/ case). But, I use my portable MD player all the time, and the hard cases take up a lot of space. Plus, I have a minidisc wallet, which, like cd wallets, only has room for the discs themselves. This is the cheapest price i have seen for md's because they...

1.0 out of 5 stars flimsy doors
For cheap discs, these do the job, but don't count on them to last. Under heavy-use (everyday in & out), the metal doors get loose and bend outwards. I've actually had quite a few come that way...just loose. I now have gone through all of the discs, removed the doors, bent them into a tighter shape, replaced them and they work much better. As for the actual media,...

These Minidiscs are and exceptional value! You get 20 discs in all kinds of different colors, which really helped me organize my collection better, it makes it really easy to know what MD to grab just by the color! My only beef is that the discs do not have the little directional arrow on them so some people may have to fiddle with the disc different directions to get it in the slot. These discs do not come with individual cases, but does anyone REALLY need those? You get four individual hard boxes that hold 6MDs each. The price here on Amazon.com is about HALF of what I can find locally in the stores and by far the best I've found on the internet! (and believe me, I shopped around for a while) The discs arrived within 3 days of the order. VERY pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars All MiniDisc's Are Created Equal, August 23, 2000

One customer has experienced trouble with these MDs, but I can't imagine it's the media. I've used 80 of these discs already and haven't experienced ONE bad or problematic disk. The price point is great. I don't know how long the other manufacturers are going to get away with charging more before people wake up and realize that, unlike blank video and audio tape formulations, which do vary considerably, digital recording should essentially be the same quality. (Are the Memorex discs constructed to last a shorter time? Is the binder worse? Only time will tell.) I haven't found a better price and have found these discs perfectly reliable. And I actually prefer the storage cases coming with five but holding six MDs to individual packs. Who wants to do all that labeling?

5.0 out of 5 stars sheer genius, March 11, 2000

Let's face it, the brand of disc you buy doesn't really matter, it's a question of aesthetics, and unless you want to spend more than $10/disc, there is no difference in sound quality between brands. That being said, at $1.50 each, these memorex discs are a fantastic deal! I haven't seen discs this inexpensive anywhere else. The closest is around $1.75/disc, but only with a bulk order of 100+, and who wants to spend $175 on discs alone? I happen to be a big fan of individual cases, so it was something of a dissapointment to discover these discs weren't packaged that way, but the 5-disc cases are really useful, especially on the go. Individual cases can be purchased easily at a number of different places. (try minidisco.com, where 20 are around $10) Get them before memorex realizes what a steal they are and raises the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Some facts about MDs, March 15, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex 74-Minute Minidisc Media (Colors, 20-Pack) (Electronics)
This is my first Amazon review, but some of the reviews of this product are so funny, I just had to comment. I own over 500 MDs, use them for live recordings & to copy CDs for easy carrying around town. I've got 2 portables & two decks.

MDs divide into 74 minute & 80 minute. They also divide into designer and, well, normal. People collect designer mini disks, like the limited edition happy kitty in two-tone pink. For the non-designer MDs, there aren't many manufacturers. Memorex, Sony, Maxell...they buy from manufacturers, they just slap on their own labels. I have these identical MDs with at least 8 different manufactures' logo slapped onto them. These are often referred to as Hi Space 74 min MDs. Hi Space is the main manufacturer.

When you trade MDs, the one restriction people place is that the shutter be metal. Plastic shutters are more prone to failure. These have metal shutters.

It is a digital media, you don't need to worry about the media quality. They are all the same. You can have a bad batch, because of quality control problems. One rarely hears about that as a problem. So you just make sure that the casing is adequate, and again, that is seen as an issue, basically, of metal versus plastic shutters.

I like the 6 MD cases these come in, but that is of course a personal matter. If you prefer individual covers, look for Hi Space MDs. It is the same product.

With over 500 MDs, I've never had a problem with one. I look for a good manufacturer (I've heard of shoddy casings on some Hong Kong purchased MDs, for example), metal shutter and low price.

Unless you go to Japan, Singapore, a few other places, you simply are not going to find another source of sturdy 74 min MDs for a better price. Places like cassettehouse have better specials, but their shipping costs are huge.

You will not find a better blank MiniDisc deal anywhere! The discs come in cool colors and comes with 4 storagecases. There are NO individual disc cases, but those are pretty muchuseless as MD's are pretty much indestructible anyway. The shipping was really fast as well. Good job, Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars All 1's and 0's created equal., July 18, 2002

These are great discs at a great price, I will order more. I have found through experience some helpful hints for recording to MD:
1: Shocks: Do not jump or dance while recording live to minidisc on your person. Likewise, do not attempt to record while playing the stereo loud enough to shake the house - it will shake the MD as well.
2: Power: Use fresh batteries or wall power whenever possible while recording.
3: Storage: Sure, it has a little metal door on it, but this also means you cannot wipe the surface free of dust in the event some slips in. The lubricated surface of the disc probably holds dust and grit to the surface, which may cause serious radial scratches during playback/record. Keep the MD's clean, in cases, like the cheap disposable tupperware made now, NOT in the floorboard of your car or loose in purse or backpack.

Special note: Do not let anyone convince you that one manufacture of digital media is superior in sound quality to another. This is balderdash. A one is always a one, and never halfway between a one and a zero.
One potential flaw of these discs is the metal door, which could become bent if snagged on something and yanked on. Don't yank on it, be gentle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of discs -- buying more now, July 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex 74-Minute Minidisc Media (Colors, 20-Pack) (Electronics)
I ordered two 20 packs a while ago and have really enjoyed recording my own jazz group. The discs have performed flawlessly. This is critical because if the recording fails, there is no way to "record it again" because of the fact that the improvisation occurs once. Anyway -- I have now ordered another batch of 40 more discs (2 - 20 disc packs). This is the highest endorsement I can give -- choosing to buy them again. Also, the price is the best I have found on the internet!

This was the best MD purchase I made. Not only do the disks have great quality sound, durablity, and spiffy lookin' colors, but they're really cheap! I could spend this much money or more on half as many disks (which by the way, are gray and boring) at a local store. Wonderful buy, wonderful product!

These discs are a great value at Amazon. They come in 4 casesfor easy organization. I can't tell the difference in sound quality ofthese discs and the other discs I have used (sony, maxell, etc.). The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't have those little cases for each MD, but that shouldn't be a problem since you can't really scratch them anyway.
