1.0 out of 5 stars No. From a Mac user.
For a long time, Memorex was the only Double Layer option for me because of price. I never really had a hard time with the 2X discs burning on the Pioneer burners (DVR-110D and 111D) in most Macs. The new 8X discs are a completely different story. I've lost at least half of the discs. I switched from DragonBurn to Toast8, with improved results for a few burns, but then...

For a long time, Memorex was the only Double Layer option for me because of price. I never really had a hard time with the 2X discs burning on the Pioneer burners (DVR-110D and 111D) in most Macs. The new 8X discs are a completely different story. I've lost at least half of the discs. I switched from DragonBurn to Toast8, with improved results for a few burns, but then more "sense errors" a quarter to halfway through the burn. The reality is Memorex DL media is not preferred media for the Pioneer drives. It was never a problem till this new 8X batch. Buy at your own risk!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money or time, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (15pk Spindle) (Electronics)
What a bunch of junk! Every one of their disks failed. After contacting Memorex, they informed me that I would have to ship them back to at my expense along with my receipt that I no longer have. I informed them that it would be a lot cheaper to throw them away and never buy any thing from Memorex again. I never heard back from them again. What I now use is Sony DVD+R DL and have never had any problems at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars 0 for 3 - DVDs won't produce readable results on the second layer (using iMove/iDVD on a mac), October 22, 2009
This review is from: Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (15pk Spindle) (Electronics)
I've burned 3 DVD's so far and none of them fully work. The first one was a widescreen version of the next two, all contain home movies recorded from a new HD camera. All three successfully burned to completion, but none of them can be completely read/played on any of the DVD players I have, including the computer that burned them. The first one gets spit out and never even gets to the menu. The other two play half-way through and freeze with the message "skipping damaged area" and never unfreeze unless I stop and start over at the main menu. I'm going to try a couple more times using a suggestion on a previous review to burn at slower speeds.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (15pk Spindle) (Electronics)
If I could give this product 0.5 stars, I would because out of the 5 times I tried burning that DVD-DL, only 1 of them completed burning successfully.

1.0 out of 5 stars wish I had read the reviews before I went to STAPLES, August 17, 2009

I thought I was going crazy when I was trying to burn these--they kept failing. Then I read the reviews here. Doh! Wast of $25--I've tried 5 and they all fail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money on these, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (15pk Spindle) (Electronics)
Working with three different burning programs, one of which is the current Nero Burning Rom (9.4.13.2), on a brand new Sony Dual Layer DVD-Burner (purchased at CompUSA) as well as a rather reliable NEC burner (Both with entirely current firmware), with every resident process killed, My internet disabled and using disks from two different stacks from two different manufactures...

(I didn't choose to get Memorex again. I merely had no choice when trying to exchange the media at a local CompUSA as the store only carried Memorex DL's and they would not refund the money. Their return policy is not to refund money on opened blank media, even though to see if the media is defective, you have to open it.)

...the ratio was 2 to 3 coasters created for every successful burn. Losing the possibility of my system being the problem, it must be the media itself. Do not buy these unless you're looking for a way to make expensive yet pretty Coasters. And if you must, do not buy it from CompUSA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and Work at Slow Speed, June 16, 2009

I'm not the first, and i won't be the last to say this: Don't burn these at 8x. Burn them at 2.4x or less, and you'll be happy enough. Out of 15, 11 succeeded for me. 3 had I/O errors, 1 unreadable disk. You WILL get errors, but you'll get them with the Verbatim disks too. As long as you burn these slowly, you should be satisfied.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Good, March 27, 2008
This review is from: Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (15pk Spindle) (Electronics)
These disks are the worst. Don't waste your money. I recorded 3.5 hours of material on one and it failed when it was being finalized. I re-recorded on a fresh disk and the second one failed as well. Then I tried a third time on a DVD+R DL from another manufacturer, and it worked flawlessly.

To be fair, I have used Memorex DVD+R single layer disks many times and they have worked just fine. Just beware of the DL.

15 disks! 15 failed burns! Each one the same error, different sectors! It has something to do with the ink they use in the Indian production facility. DO NOT waste your money, you're better off writing down your data on paper with a crayon.
