5.0 out of 5 stars Why Pay More!?
This DVD burning isn't as cut and dried as some would like you to believe. However, just because you get a bad burn doesn't mean it is the discs. There is a whole bunch of stuff going on in your computer that can affect the burn.

I have a Dell 2 ghz, with a Lite-On 16x drive, running Nero OEM. Pretty generic, but these Memorex 16x discs burn just fine. In fact,...

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING MEMOREX DVDS HAVE NO LASTING LIFE, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
I had no problems burning to these discs, its when I went back a few months later to these discs and found out that none of them work anymore. After further research I found out that Memorex uses the cheapest dye available and thus the DVDs have absolutelly no life to them, my discs started dying after a few months.

In addition, in you physically hold the disc in your hands you can feel how warped physically it has become. This is true for all the discs (about 150 of them). I CAN NOT NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT STRONLY ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Burns Ok, but will not read in set-top player., April 7, 2006
This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
I was able to burn videos to these discs just fine. Don't let that fool you though. I was disgusted to find out that nearly all of them would not play correctly on my Sony set-top DVD player. Whenever they get to the end of the movie, the player skips back a few chapters or just quits all together. The problem seems to be at the outside of the disks because the shorter movies that I burned seemed to work ok (they don't use the whole disk). I could even look at the burnt disks under a bright light and see dark spots on the disks that I think is just poor manufacturing. I was able to read them again on my PC though and make another copy to a good disk so that was life saver. My suggestion, go with another company that actually has a quality assurance department.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs, May 6, 2006

This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
I thought Memorex was supposed to mean quality. These DVDs have totally exploded that notion. When I first started using these, the first half dozen spindles I bought worked great. However, the past few I have bought have been totally defective. I have bought from different stores, so I know it isn't just a case of me getting a "bad batch." 1/2 to 2/3rds of the disks in any spindle are totally dead. Seeing these other reviews, I know I am not alone. I would have to strongly advise people not to waste their money on these defective coasters, unless they like gambling with their money. The odds are not in your favor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage!, September 18, 2006
This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
To back up my personal DVD collection I burned 200 discs. 100 on these Memorex DVD+R's, 100 on Philips DVD+R's. EVERY Memorex had flaws during playback. EVERY Philips was flawless. I've been buying Memorex for years but I'll never buy Memorex again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Memorex doesnt work on my burner, June 17, 2006
This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
I bought these and they failed to even start burning. Don't waste your time, stick to TDK for brand name media. Now I am stuck with the pain of trying to return these and the vendor I bought them from is goign to force me to exchange it for the same brand UGH

I have to join the chorus in stating that these disks just do not work. I even tried to burn at a slower speed, different software, etc. I went out and purchased some TDKs and all of a sudden everything worked.

Beware! Nero (and other software) may burn it without reporting an error, but it will probably fail verification. I would have had a very nasty surprise down the road if I did not perform the verification at burn time.

NEC-3550A DVD drive.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 50 Pack Spindle (Electronics)
This DVD burning isn't as cut and dried as some would like you to believe. However, just because you get a bad burn doesn't mean it is the discs. There is a whole bunch of stuff going on in your computer that can affect the burn.

I have a Dell 2 ghz, with a Lite-On 16x drive, running Nero OEM. Pretty generic, but these Memorex 16x discs burn just fine. In fact, I have burnt about 600-800 of these discs and have had very few fall-outs(2). Not enough to justify buying the "better" quality discs.

Now for the caveat: I did have one spate of problems, caused by a not so well behaved antivirus program. I tossed out the antivirus program and went over to Avast!(it's free, check with Microsoft). Problem solved even though I run Winamp and a logging environmental sampling program while burning discs.

We burn hundreds of discs for a hospital lecture series. They are being played on all sorts of equipment, including some pretty banged up junk. So far I have not received one complaint about the discs only suggestions about the content.

Before you spend big bucks on some "better" disc, pop up your task manager in XP and see if there is some runaway task that needs some discipline or possibly your computer is too slow to run 16x. Also, if you must run "better" discs then do a surface test in Nero. I bet the "better" disc will look very close to failure if the Memorex failed.

These disks would not work with my Sony brand DVD writer. I have tried several other brands and so far everything works but Memorex.
