The Memorex MD5485 is a personal CD player which plays audio CDs, plus CD-R discs. This simple and affordable CD player sports a bass boost system which produces a richer sound, especially when using headphones. The MD5480 offers a forty-five second anti-skip system, perfect for those who listen to their player while jogging, walking or commuting on the bumpy bus. It is possible to hook up this player to a home stereo or boom box via the line-out jack. With the right optional equipment, the MD5485 would be a nice option for those wishing to use their personal CD player as a CD car stereo. With four play modes (normal, repeat, shuffle and twenty-four track program) there are many options to listen to your favorite CDs. The LCD display will keep you up-to-date on track and time information.

In addition to the quality CD player, the MD5485 also offers a FM/AM receiver. Tune into your favorite radio stations as you commute or exercise. With ten FM and ten AM presets, choosing your most listened to stations is a cinch. Much like the CD player, this radio receiver offers a deep bass sound.

The player runs on two AA batteries, either alkaline or rechargeable. Typical alkaline batteries will last for approximately twenty hours. For unlimited listening, use the included AC adaptor. Other notable features include: resume, 8X digital oversampling and a one-bit D/A converter. The casing is heat-resistant and the casing's color is a sleek and modern silver.

Amazon left out a few things about this product:

1.) The PLL Digital Tuner ((PLL) Phase Locked Loop) offers drift-free reception, and will adjust automatically to better receive your favorite radio station when necessary. You can also presets 3 FM and 3 AM stations for tuning at the touch of a button.
2.) The unit will also playback CD-RW Discs.
3.) The Player has a full LCD Display, when listening to the radio it shows the radio station, (By Number) and when listening to a CD Shows the Track/Minutes/Seconds
4.) 24-Track Selection Programable Memory, which allows you to program the order in which you want the CD played back, up to 24 songs per CD.
5.) The Portable has the standard CD Functions, Track Skip Up/Down, Random Play, and Repeat One/All.
6.) Oversampling: 8X digital filter.
7.) You have the option of turning off the ESP (Electric Shock Protection (Anti Skip)) this will save your batteries when the player is sitting in one place and not susceptible to jolts.
8.) It ships in Clear Hard Plastic with a 4 color display card that has all of the pertinent information on it.
9.) Comes with Headphones. (Over Head, Bar Style.)
10.) Takes 2 AA Batteries, which are not included, so make sure you pick some up.

I would recommend this unit if you're not going to do much moving of it. If you plan to buy it to use when you're exercising, I would recommend you look at other available models if you're going to use the CD player because this unit will scratch your CD or skip easily. If you're going to use the radio part, though, it will be fine.

it does not play compressed mp3, which is what i bought it for. it plays regular cd's just fine, but so what. so does my computer.
