Find another MP3 CD Player for this price, and with a recognizable brand name on it. I did a ton of research prior to purchasing this player, and I just kept comming back to the price, feature for feature it is basically the same as models that cost alot more. Lets face it it is a PORTABLE player, every one that I have owned gets dropped, smashed, left, or stolen before I ever wear it out. Why not spend as little as possible and enjoy the product and not have to worry about loosing, or breaking it all the time. If it gets broken who cares, heck, buy 2 or 3 and have a back up player for the day when it gets broken, it happens to all of them eventually, yes even the expensive models. No I don't think a more expensive model is more durable.

I have had this model for quite some time now, I think about 6 months. I Skate with it, work out with it, bike with it, and yes it has taken a few tumbles and is scratched, and dented, but it still works, now if it were an expensive model when it crashed to the ground the first 20 times I would have been really upset, but at this price, I'll just get another one. ... I think I am going to buy another one just in case next time mine hits the pavement it gives up the ghost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bluetiful, I am always getting compliments on the color., May 30, 2003

Roses are Red, Bluetiful CD Players are Blue, and if your smart, you'll buy one of these too...

O.K., I know pretty bad, but music puts me in a good mood, and for some reason so does Blue, especially the Blue on this Player.

I don't know why someone else has bashed my beloved CD Player, I have had mine for a little over a year, and have had no problems what so ever. It is the first Memorex product that I have purchased and I would definetly recomend the brand. I was looking at CD-MP3 Players at 3 and 4 X the cost, a friend purchased a Sony and paid over $$$ and mine will do everything that his does, and at the price I paid if it breaks I could buy 3 more for what he paid.

Overall, this thing is awsome for the price. I would, and do recomend this player to anyone, especially those just getting into MP3 Files, it is a great product at a great price to find out if you like MP3 Files, and MP3 CD Players.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine, June 3, 2003

I used to have a Sony minidisc player and like it a lot, but this machine sounds as good as the expensive Sony machine, and can play an MP3 CD with a few hundred songs on it.

The shock isolation works well and there is no hissing sound when it isn't playing anything.

I'm retiring the Sony minidisc player and going to use this from now on!

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment., August 18, 2003

I purchased the player on sale, and thought I found a great deal. However, after using the machine for a week or two of commuting I realized that I had made a mistake in choosing price over quality. I ended up replacing this player within a month of its purchase.

Some of the major problems:
Battery juice - Plays about 4-5 CDs before the "low battery" signal starts up, and then dies after the 7th or so. I hoped the player would be a bargain, but soon realized that the frequent battery replacements make this - ultimately - a costly purchase.

Burned disks - While it sometimes works, the play of burned CDs is sketchy at best. 50% of the time, burned CDs will skip. Futhermore, though I've tried with multiple programs and multiple computers, I have yet to succeed in playing a CD full of MP3s.

Minor problems (ones that are tolerable given the low price):
Sound quality - If outdoors or in a loud environment, it's fine. With little background noise, however, you can hear a whole lot of hiss in the sound, sort of like an old dubbed tape that has been played a few too many times.

Interface - Slow to respond to skipping. Also, some sort of equalizer is ever-present (and annoying), and even if having one is your sort of thing keep in mind that it doesn't seem to match up with the music AT ALL. (Battery-draining) eye candy, I guess.

I was looking for a quality, but not to expensive CD player at the store. I saw this and was amazed! The buttons are greatly laid out, and it is super easy to use. Just press play and you're in business! Displays the title, author, and album of any MP3 CD. The person that said this is a fiasco forgot a minor detail, (more like major), finalizing the CD! This has always worked for me and always will!

4.0 out of 5 stars Value for the money, July 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MPD8610-01 MP3/CD Player (Blue Ice) (Electronics)
This cheap discman plays well and has a lot of features considering the low price. I was looking for a cheap discman for my eight years old daugther. I wanted a discman, which was able to play MP3 files. This one does the job, shows the title and the artist in the display and does it all very well. My daugther listen to it before she goes to sleep, in the car and all day long. Great present!
Only disappointment was the headphones. The wire has got a loose connection, so I had to find some other headphones for her. But my daugther is probably the one to blame...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mine Stopped Reading CD's After About A Year And A Half, June 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MPD8610-01 MP3/CD Player (Blue Ice) (Electronics)
After trying various fixes, new batteries, new CD, CD cleaner, I've come to the conclusion that my CD player is dead. I'm assuming it's the drive mechanism or the motor since it no longer makes a spin up sound or vibration.

Other than that this was an okay CD player. The volume was a little lower than other CD players I've had, making it hard to hear on the noisier parts of my daily train ride. I also thought the MP3 display / controls were a little difficult to use, but I've been spoiled by my computer's MP3 player I suppose.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth your $, unless you are really poor, June 20, 2003
This review is from: Memorex MPD8610-01 MP3/CD Player (Blue Ice) (Electronics)
The only good thing about this cd player is that it is really cheap. But otherwise, it is not BAD in particular, it is just not good. It takes a long time to read the cds, it uses up batteries quickly, there is a quiet hissing in the background when it plays, it won't hold your spot in a cd if you stop it, etc. Also, I have a tape adapter for my car stereo, and my old Sony player worked great with it; however, this thing sounds really weird in the car. Basically, this is a cheap cd player that gets the basic job done, but your money will definitely be more well-spent on a Sony or another leading brand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy a Memorex, May 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MPD8610-01 MP3/CD Player (Blue Ice) (Electronics)
This product was great when i first got it. It barey ever skipped and the search function was excellent. I am only rating it 2 stars becasue after a few months the thing just started going through battery's. I kept buying new batterys and it kept draining them in 10 minutes. Don't buy this CD player whatever you do.

1.0 out of 5 stars This player was nearly a fiasco, June 25, 2003

I was psyched when this player went on sale and thought this was the player I had been waiting for. Instead, I'm here writing another review about how this player is a disappointment.

Simply put, the player wouldn't recognize burned MP3 CDs, ordinary CDs, or CDRWs. I tried:

* Three different ordinary CDs.

* Two burned MP3 CDs of different brands.

* Two sets of batteries, both fresh.

* Powering it externally through a transformer.

The player worked only twice, and then only hesitantly and briefly, once with an ordinary CD, and once with a burned MP3 CD, but it stopped after a few seconds with the latter.

The problem appeared to be the focusing of the laser. When the player is booted and searches for the CDs the laser focusing lens repeatedly swings up and down while the CD is spinning..., but the player only displays "CD Error".

So, if you are like me and are waiting for another killer bargain, I suggest you wait some time longer. Perhaps the mythical ueber MP3/CD/Radio/ID-Text below ... exists out there, somewhere.

As a post-script: this player seems to work for some people, and simply not for others, so your chances are probably, ballpark, 50/50.
