The discs get stuck in the dvd player and you have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the disk out.

I have no idea what the specific, arcane circumstances under which the remote control work are - it was always sort of random whether or not it would do what I told it to.

About a month after buying it I put a DVD in and received the error message "WRONG DISC". What? No, I'm pretty sure that's the right disc, Memorex. I don't even remember how I got it to quit doing that.

Lasted another three months before putting in a disc just made a series of grating whirls and clicks. Maybe if I would have waited more than three minutes it would have started, but that was always the point at which it started to sound like it was damaging the disc. I tried to open the case to see if anything was visibly wrong, but the last two screws immediately stripped out when I tried to remove them. I guess if this thing has an upside it's how satisfying it feels to throw it away.

Do not buy one of these. Do not accept one as a gift. This thing is absolute garbage and anyone profiting from it should be ashamed.

i bought mine from a target store and at first it played dvds ok but started to have a hard time with loading and then getting stuck. now (only 2 weeks and 2 movies later) it won't play discs at all and every disc i put in displays wrong disc.
to top it off there is no warranty registration card in the box just a note to go to the memorex website...there is no support for this model there. a google search reveals nothing for support either only "hot deals" for this cheap dvd player. i am going to try and take it back to target...maybe they aren't all this bad but this one was definitely a dud.

I bought this from Target and have not even had it for over a month and now it does not work AT ALL!! I had trouble as soon as I bought it. The remote was hard to use and midway through the movie the power light would go off and render the remote completely useless. Honestly I have NEVER been more disappointed in any product I have EVER purchased!!! [...]

I've never taken the time to actually write a review of a product before, but I was so fed up with this device that I was determined to sit down and write about my experiences with it.

I owned this product for several months, but it got to the point where I couldn't stand to deal with it's many defects any longer. The remote control worked about 1/4 times on average. The player would freeze on different frames of various movies, most often in the DVD menus. The freeze would last as long as five minutes when I was patient enough to wait for it. Other times the freeze never resolved itself, and required ejecting the disc and starting the process of getting to the DVD menu (past all the ads and previews, etc) all over again. Sometimes, the disc menu screens would appear, but the text options wouldn't- as if the player would only load part of the contents of the disc, then either choke on the material, or fail to load entirely.

Playback would randomly fail on all kinds of movies. I completely lost power to the unit several times, again at random, with no discernible cause.

By the time I decided to give up working with the player, curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to crack it open and take a look at it. One of the casing's screws was completely stripped. The interior appeared to be assembled with a hot glue gun, and had glue residue ALL OVER the interior of the device- the main circuit board, laser assembly, housing, EVERYWHERE. I went back to Target, spent a little more on the base model Sony DVD player, and the difference was astounding.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this product. Don't be lured in by the low price tag on this device. It's not worth a fraction of the cost it lists for, nor would I recommend giving this as a gift to anyone unless you really didn't like the person.

This product is horrible. Cannot watch more than 15 minutes of any DVD without it freezing, not recognizing the disk, or messing up to the point where you have to unplug the DVD player. Absolute lemon that Memorex refuses to support. Don't walk, RUN from this product. Go Sony or Panasonic... at least they stand behind the products they sell.

Just out of the box and hooked it up. Tried every DVD I had in the house especially new ones that should be compatable and it kept showing "WRONG DISC". Nothing worked! Website is not useful. You get what you pay for but come on.. I just wanted a simple DVD player and this was not the one! Don't waste the little money or your time! JUNK!

I purchased this DVD player from Target about 3 months ago after our previous first generation Sony DVD player started skipping a lot.

At first, it worked wonderfully with no skipping, however several weeks ago the video suddenly lost all color and either had bad static interference in the picture or transmitted two images of the screen in black and white with an annoying black bar in the middle of the screen. Unfortunately, the DVD player was at that point beyond it's 90 day warranty period (based on all the negative reviews, I'm beginning to think that the short warranty period was intentional.

As a result, I'm now going to avoid all Memorex products in the future and thoroughly check out all the reviews before I make this purchase.

Let the buyer beware
