Important things to know about the Memorex MX-4100......,
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MX4100 Executive Microsystem (Silver) (Electronics)
This Executive Micro Systems is priced very aggressively for the features that it includes, and it is one of the least expensive on the Amazon.com Web Site. Some of the features not called out by Amazon.com Editorial are:1.) Vertical Slot CD, similar to a car stereo, no annoying tray to break and knock things over as it goes in and out of the micro system. This unit will also play CD-R/CD-RW Discs, and has a programmable playback memory, as well as Track Skip Up/Down, and a repeat function. 2.) The PLL Digital Tuner ((PLL) Phase Locked Loop) offers drift-free reception, and will adjust automatically to better receive your favorite radio station when necessary. You can also presets 10 FM and 10 AM stations for tuning at the touch of a button. 3.) Separate *WOOD* Speakers, this is a big deal you can separate the speakers for true stereo sound; there are executive micro systems on the market with fixed speakers. Wood Speaker enclosures will always give you better sound than plastic, especially when it comes to Bass Tones. (Remember, high end speaker cabinets are made out of wood.) 4.) Not just any remote, but a Full Function Remote Control. What does this mean to you? It means that you can operate everything on the system from the remote. Just remember to pick up some batteries. 5.) EQ Presets, Rock/Pop/Jazz, all three offer distinctly different tones/sound, and allow the listener to choose which sound they like best. 6.) Last but not least, and possibly one of my favorite features...The backlit colored display, There are 4 backlit colored displays on this product, One on each speaker, one at the top(Square), and one at the bottom (round)of the actual Player. Here is the cool part; there are three main colors Blue, Purple and Red. As the colors slowly change, the colors blend together to make 6 or7 additional colors. You have the option of choosing one of the three colors or making random transitions between the 6-7 colors. 7.) Conveniently located Headphone jack on the front of the player for convenient, easy access. If you are purchasing this item as a gift it comes in a nice 4 color gift box, and is fairly heavy (11 Lbs.) for it's small footprint. I enjoy the MX-4100 for its great sound, and looks, and would highly recommend it.

Great Product Overall,

First off, this CD player is AWESOME! Its definately a great choice! Everything about it is great. The color changing background, volume control, fully functional remote, automatic CD power feed (no tray) and loud sound with good quality are all great! I also like this thing cause it is compact, small, and looks way better than most other large ugly plastic stereos. Be sure to read other people's reviews on this since I don't want to list all of the good things! BUT, there are some things about this you should know. First off, for a stereo effect, the speakers can be placed just about anywhere, which is great, BUT, the cords are only about 6 ft long, thus not being long enough to place them in separate corners of a room depending on where you want to place the player. Secondly, sometimes the light in the left speaker does not work (Another reviewer had the same problem). Majorly, what is great is that the CD fits vertically into the player without an annoying tray, but, after about 6 months of use the power feed that pulled the CD into it didn't work anymore. Long story short after opening it up I found that many of the small plastic gears inside were broken and stripped. I suppose this could be avoided if you were to be very careful when inserting the CD. It happened when my friend inserted a CD, and he may not have known about the automatic feed and might have forced it in, thus breaking the TINY PLASTIC gears. Anyway, when the volume is very low(this thing will go very loud and keep good sound quality) there is some hazy static, so this thing sounds better when loud (of course!) Lastly, pretty much everything with this thing is AWESOME, but the small antenna plain out sucks. I tried placing near a window, but reception still marginal. It might be my area but I live in Los Angeles not far from any radio station. All in all great product, but just keep these in mind. Hope this helps.

Great Little CD/Radio System with BIG sound,
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MX4100 Executive Microsystem (Silver) (Electronics)
I purchased one of these Memorex MX4100 Microsystems because I needed a compact CD player. The bright colors and mini size caught my eye in the store. When I got it home I was impressed once again by the ease of setting it up and the BIG SOUND that comes out of it. I am very happy with this wonderful little desktop setup....the only problem being that now my 10 year old daughter wants one! LOL!

Disappointed in Memorex MX4100,

The unit works well enough (except for the light on the left speaker which doesn't work at all) but the speakers seem [inferior] and are very lightweight. They don't give a clear, crisp sound. The radio also doesn't seem to receive local stations very clearly.I don't want to be overly negative but on the whole, I think I wasted my money.

If you are looking for a stereo with great sound, don't buy this! The sounds didn't work good at all! The speakers had to much static in them even when I played a CD. Even it's looks are great the system isn't.

Good System, Great Value,
By A Customer
This review is from: Memorex MX4100 Executive Microsystem (Silver) (Electronics)
I purchased two of these stereo systems, one as a gift. For the price this is easily one of the best systems out there. The Memorex is perfect for a home office, bedroom, or living room. Sound quality is good and the overall look, feel, and quality of the system is superior to most on the market. The speakers are encased in wood for better sound, the receiver has a metal case, not plastic. The full function remote is also easy to use. The lack of a cassette player is a plus as this technology is on the verge of obsolescence (similar to DVDs replacing VCR tapes.)My favorite aspects of the Memorex system are the small footprint, side loading CD, full function remote, quality feel, and sophisticted appearance (not the cheap looking plastic stuff with blinking lights meant to appeal to teenage boys.) Highly recommended as an executive/bookshelf system; at this price and value you can't go wrong.

Yep - it's missing something,

It's missing an auxiliary audio input for things like a DVD or VCR player. Without this - no need for me to buy it. Otherwise it looked nice in the store.

I have had this stereo for 2 years now,and have had no problems. The quality is great, espicaly with the X bass and EQ.the radio works great and the antenae is cool because it is a wire and it's very easy to get the right channel.the lights on the speakers are awesome,it adds a cool effect.the only problems that i have had (besides loosing the remote in a move accross the country) is that you get a fussy sound using the EQ with the volume turned under 7,and it doesn't play burned CD r's very well, you usaly have to skip to the second or third track and the go back to the first.an all around great product, cheaper than some, but has great quality.

Horrible System,
By Allie Mason (Raleigh, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Memorex MX4100 Executive Microsystem (Silver) (Electronics)
I bought this system a few days after Christmas because it was on sale. I thought it looked like a cute little system for my dorm room, and the sound in the store wasn't too bad. I took it home and set it up to try it out. When I played a CD, there was so much static. But I liked everything else, so I thought I'd keep it. Later that night, I went to turn on the system and nothing happened. I finally got it to turn on using the remote, but the back lights didn't work, you could barely see the display, and none of the buttons on the system worked, only the remote. I took it back the next day and exchanged it for a Panasonic SA-PM12, which is so much better and I love it!
