5.0 out of 5 stars Great MP3 for the price!
I recently purchased this MP3 player to take with me on my daily runs. I had looked at the iPod and although I am sure it is a great MP3 player I just couldn't see spending all that $$ on one. So, I bought this one with the convenience of it fitting comfortably in my hand. It works perfectly, is easy to install and use, and the battery life lasts a long time. Also, it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good buy at the time
Got a good deal on this at the time. The player is good for WMA and MP3, but the FM radio is weak. The main station near me is so strong, the unit cannot differ between other stations.

The other issue is that you cannot set up a play list externally from the player. You must download the files to the player then set up the play list. Not that this is bad,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MP3 for the price!, September 24, 2004

I recently purchased this MP3 player to take with me on my daily runs. I had looked at the iPod and although I am sure it is a great MP3 player I just couldn't see spending all that $$ on one. So, I bought this one with the convenience of it fitting comfortably in my hand. It works perfectly, is easy to install and use, and the battery life lasts a long time. Also, it holds plenty of songs (my husband also takes it with him to the gym). The only bad thing about it is that the headphones that it comes with are a bit cheap and created a static-y sound after a few days so I recommend you buy better headphone. Enjoy it, I do!!! I couldn't have gotten a better deal or MP3 player. Thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little mp3 player, February 26, 2005
This review is from: Memorex Metro 256 mb MP3 Player with FM tuner and Voice recorder (Electronics)
I received this mp3 player for Christmas, so I've only had it for 2 months, but... so far so good!

Headphones: Mine haven't broken (yet), but I like them because they are the earbud sytle, and the right cord part is longer so you can wrap it around the back of your neck. I do not think the sound quality from these headphones is too bad. If you're a music fanatic, then you may want to buy better ones.

Battery life: It takes one AAA, but this thing eats batteries. After loading my songs in, I got about 8 hours of play before I had to replace the battery. After buying a couple of packs of AAA batteries, I got disgusted and bought rechargables. I would advise you to do this as well if you're gonna get this player. This is really the only major problem I've had so far.

Backlight: Very useful for dark bus rides in the morning. The blue light goes off after 10 seconds, but goes back on for a few seconds if you touch any button. You can also change the settings to make it stay on longer, if you want.

General setup: Pretty simple to understand. The main dial is up for volume up, down for volume down, and left and right to change tracks. To turn it off you have to hold a button for a couple seconds (which is good if you tend to accidentally bump the off button on things) There is also a hold function so it doesn't play accidentally in your bag and waste your batteries.

Song playing: I've had the thing on "shuffle" since I've got it, seems to work for me. You can also go to the "navigate" thing and find any song quickly. Apparently you can do something with playlists but I don't know how, so I can't comment on that.

Downloading songs: Downloading is pretty quick, about 3- 5 seconds per song, I would guess. I can fit 60- 70 songs on it, depending on the length of the songs.

Radio: The radio doesn't work great for me; only a couple stations come in, and they are a bit fuzzy.

Voice recorder: I haven't tried this yet, so I can't comment.

Other: Don't drop this thing, because I did once and now there are weird little twitchy noises when a song is not playing. Not a big deal, just a little annoying.

Overall, it's a reliable, fun mp3 player. I think it's great for the price. If you can't afford or don't want an iPod and don't need to store hundreds of songs, then this is a great alternative.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Design, January 30, 2005
This review is from: Memorex Metro 256 mb MP3 Player with FM tuner and Voice recorder (Electronics)
This MP3 Player uses a AAA battery. This is a terrible design decision. It severely curtails play life (by 1/3 to 1/2 compared to a AA) while the batteries themselves are not significantly cheaper than AA's. I have also had a hard time finding rechargeable AAA's compared to AA's. And while it sounds trivial, it is NOT minor that AAA batteries disappear much more easily that AA batteries at almost 3x the size. I bought 4 rechargeables shortly after getting this. A month later, 2 have disappeared. Did I mention AAA batteries are not notably cheaper than AA's?<br />
Dont buy this.

1.0 out of 5 stars great at first..., January 5, 2005
This review is from: Memorex Metro 256 mb MP3 Player with FM tuner and Voice recorder (Electronics)
I purchased this player because it was a good deal for a 256MB player with a radio. The player worked fantastic at first, the size of the player is definitely a plus. However, after the second time that I tried to change the songs on the player, the port that the computer cable plugs into broke. I was unable to change songs after this, when I exchanged the player the computer would not recognize the new player, despite reinstalling software, etc. I would recommend seeking out another player if you intend on using this player on a daily basis. (The headphones also broke after a week.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good buy at the time, December 31, 2004

Got a good deal on this at the time. The player is good for WMA and MP3, but the FM radio is weak. The main station near me is so strong, the unit cannot differ between other stations.

The other issue is that you cannot set up a play list externally from the player. You must download the files to the player then set up the play list. Not that this is bad, but I want it all! You can name the file alphabetically to get the list in a good order.

Overall it seems to be a good unit. I still do not like having to tote around the USB cable, but 10 hours of music, well I don't change it that often.
