5.0 out of 5 stars Great Flash Drive
I really like my U3 Travel Drive. I use it everyday at work. I had a 1Gb U3 Drive and found I used it so much I upgraded to the 2Gb.

I use my drive on at least 6 different computers. I can plug it in to any computer and use it and the applications I have on it without rebooting as someone said in another review. I am using it right now with Firefox, RoboForm,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Unusable, Untimely, Unfriendly = U3
I bought for $40 at Kmart a flash drive.
I did not know that if it had U3 on it the drive would be

- UNTIMELY, often taking 19 minutes or so to load and show my folders.
- UNTIMELY, and then when you want to shut it down that can be 15 min.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Flash Drive, May 21, 2006
This review is from: Memorex 2GB USB 2.0 Mini Travel Drive (32509373) (Personal Computers)

I am using it right now with Firefox, RoboForm, Thunderbird, Migo and Trillian all running off the U3 Drive. I have seen the reboot message and have ignored it and everything works fine. As for someone saying that the drive will not disconnect correctly, I have found that it disconnects better than other flash drives I have owned.

I would recommend this U3 Mini Travel Drive to anyone who wants to prevent personal information from being left on the host computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product for U3, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Memorex 2GB USB 2.0 Mini Travel Drive (32509373) (Personal Computers)
I have bought this drive and tried it on three PC's with WIN XP and non of them required to reboot as described by the other review.
The only issue that I have with this drive is the write speed.
It's realy noticable when you try to save a large file like 300mb to the drive .

5.0 out of 5 stars To U3 or not U3:, December 27, 2007
This review is from: Memorex 2GB USB 2.0 Mini Travel Drive (32509373) (Personal Computers)
This is not a review of the Memorex Travel Drive itself but to provide some general information about U3 flash drives. U3 is something that you either love or hate. The U3 LaunchPad is an application manager (software) that is installed on U3 drives. It allows you to password protect your files on the flash drive as well as run certain applications from the drive. U3 works only with Windows and the downside is that not all versions of U3 LauchPad work with all versions of Windows. Some manufacturers (such as Memorex and SanDisk) ship the same flash drives in 2 versions, i.e. with and without U3. The non-U3 version of the same Memorex Mini TravelDrive is Part No: 32509379. As a consumer you'll have to read the package description carefully.

For those who are about ready to throw away their U3 drives, there is a simple solution. To use the flash drive as a storage device: re-format it to FAT32 to use with Windows, Mac OS or Linux. Otherwise format the drive to NTFS to use it exclusively with Windows 2000, XP or Vista. NTFS gives better performance than FAT32, but sacrificing compatibility with non-Windows machines. Most if not all USB drives ship from the factory formatted to FAT32.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unusable, Untimely, Unfriendly = U3, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Memorex 2GB USB 2.0 Mini Travel Drive (32509373) (Personal Computers)
I bought for $40 at Kmart a flash drive.
I did not know that if it had U3 on it the drive would be
- UNUSABLE, only half functional when using its own software
- UNTIMELY, often taking 19 minutes or so to load and show my folders.
- UNTIMELY, and then when you want to shut it down that can be 15 min.
- UNFRIENDLY, it just plan is a pain to try and use.

Now my freinds and I use the U3 indicator as a red flag to NOT buy anything that has that moniker on it.
The U3 software seems to want to take over things and productivity goes down the drain.

MY suggestion if you see U3 on something, drop it as the worthless piece of trash that it is and don't waste your money on it.

I am a low income person that gains most of his income, at over 60, from a few newspaper deliveries in the weekdays. This $40 drive represents 1/10 of my monthly income and to purchase something like this and then have it unusable, untimely and unfriendly, well it just hurts us older folk to be so taken advantage of.

But I will remember, and not have any of my freinds or I buy U3 junk again. Already we have passed up 3 items with the U3 lables on them, we want something that works and this flash drive experience shows that you can not get anything to work that has U3 on it.

I have a 512 U3 smart drive and I like it so much I wanted to upgrade to a 2GB however this one (as ordered from Amazon) do not have the U3 technology. It works fine, but I was hoping for the U3 stuff.

Overall good product however!

I have a 1GB travel drive by Memorex. I find this one more accessable and more useful. I appreciate the way it was handled, shipped and the speedy delivery. Great job.

3.0 out of 5 stars U3 A Pain, cap is bad design, February 23, 2007
By
Mr Mike (Silicon Valley) - See all my reviews
Functional drive now, but the U3 launchpad effectively prevents ejection of the drive while in use - which is until you shut down the computer. If deleted from the drive, it reinstalls itself through Windows. Once I found the U3 uninstall at [...] I had a usable drive with only one annoying problem - the drive has a cap that doesn't fit well on the opposite end if you have the cord string attached - it kept coming loose and after a few days was lost. The Sandisk slider is much better design than the cap. One nice thing is the shape and textured logo, which makes it harder to drop and easier to plug and unplug.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this junk, August 9, 2006

Not only is this thing an overpriced piece of trash, it is also packaged with less than honest information. Right on the Amazon website it says "works with Mac and PC." On the package, under system requirements, one line reads "Mac OS 8 or greater." And yet, what happens when it is actually plugged into a Mac? Absolutely nothing. In order to store anything on the drive, you must use the software ON THE FLASH DRIVE, but all the software is PC based. What the hell? So I go over to the Memorex website to do a little troubleshooting, and what do I find there? NO MENTION OF THE MAC WHATSOEVER IN THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS!! So apparently, despite promises to the contrary, this is a PC ONLY device!

Oh, yeah, and when I did use it on my PC at home, it wouldn't eject properly at all, as has been described in other reviews.
