RUN from this insult to cameras,
By Avi (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diego Digital Camera (Electronics)
My 3.5 year old son always wants to take pictures with my camera (and does a pretty good job), but i didn't want to worry about him breaking a high end camera. i bought the diego camera thinging that he'll have the experience and fun with it and get some pictures out of the deal. WRONG! the pictures are worse than ones you can take with a cell phone. they are super grainy, blurry, terrible color and generally poor quality in every way imaginable.on top of that, the camera makes noise. not the clicking noise of a normal camera. noooo, this one has recordings of diego's high pitched whiny voice. that voice is probably why they make this thing hard to break. even if the picture quality was decent, i'd probably have to return the camera just to stop hearing that creepy, nails-on-chalkboard noise. my son, however, was thrilled with this toy. he took pictures of anything and everything. i uploaded the pictures onto the computer so he could see them. he was sort of happy, but only because he doesn't know any better. but even he couldn't tell what all the pictures were. bottom line: i am going to return this camera ASAP. i looked at the reviews for the other kids' cameras, and i don't think i could get another one of these pieces of garbage. these toy manufacturers didn't even try to produce quality. it's sad. i'm sure they could have easily used a higher quality chip (or whatever it takes to get decent pictures). even if the price increases somewhat, it would still be an infinitely better product and would last longer with the kids. how long do you think kids will be fooled by blurry garbage? i would never ever buy this thing again. i'm ashamed of myself for not reading the reviews before i bought it in the first place.

Entertaining for a 4 year old,

We purchased this camera for my 4 year old son for his birthday. When he started building pretend cameras out of lego, we decided to find something for him. We purchased the Npower Go Diego Go camera at Toysrus for $39.99.Ease of setup: Very easy. Two screws on the bottom (the screws are attached and cannot be lost give you access to an SD card slot and 4 AA batteries -- not included). There's also a small CR2032 battery. I'm not sure what this is for except I'm pretty sure this is the power source to make the camera "talk". Ease of use: My son picked up on it immediately. Large button on the front to snap the shutter. Other large button on the front to hear the built-in Diego recordings (like smile). The buttons on the back could be a little more kid friendly. It took a few minutes to show my son how to look at pictures that he's taken. He's yet to master deleting. The deleting even takes me a few tries. The delete button isn't as responsive as it should be. The flash is automatic, but tends to wash out the subject since kids (or at least my son) tends to get really close to whatever he's taking a picture of. In decent light though, the flash doesn't go of. There is a sliding door on the bottom (next to the tripod mount) that allows you to access the USB port without unscrewing the bottom -- very convenient. Picture Quality: It's a 1 megapixel camera with a cheap CCD. The pictures are about what you'd get with a cheap camera phone. A good camera phone will take better pictures. The quality is a bit grainy and blurry (depending on my much my son moves the camera). But really, if you read the specs and look at the price, this is what you should expect. Fun and Durability: First day, my son took over 300 pictures. Everything from his socks to his plate of mac and cheese. I put a cheap 32MB SD card that I had lying around. That's enough to give him a little over 400 pictures. The camera itself is kind of a rubbery plastic. Good gripping surface and does seem to protect the camera. He's knocked it off the table a few times already without any damage. Overall, I'd probably give this a 3.5 to a 4. Picture quality is not really good, but for a young child who just likes the novelty of being able to take digital photos, I'd recommend it.

Tired of People Slamming This Camera,
By Terri Christiansen "Life isn't about waiting ... (Texas United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Diego Digital Camera (Electronics)
I bought this camera for my 4 year old grandson so that he would "ignore" my camera and not feel "left out." It worked.Does it take great pictures? Compared to what? Compared to my name-brand 8mg, 15x optical zoom? No. Of course not. It's a camera for PRE-SCHOOL KIDS (ages 3 to 5), and for those purposes, the pictures are just fine. Grandson is very proud of his pictures. The software is fun too. More important than how fine the pictures are, it has been my grandson's favorite gift. He has had more fun with this little camera. I even have to take the camera strap off at night because he insists on sleeping with it. The camera was very easy for him to figure out. He can handle all of the buttons. It has a cute (tiny) LCD. The camera strap is a nice little touch also as once it is connected to the camera, it has releases on both sides that make it easy to remove without having to undue the tie strings. The lens cap is easy to put on and remove. The controls are easy to manipulate. I was surprised that it has two modes; take pictures and playback. It deletes also. It is also extremely rugged! I have witnessed it being dropped hard, thrown, etc. It was certainly a great gift according to grandson. I wasn't looking for my 4 year old to take professional pictures. Perhaps my expectations were more in line with what the product was made for... having fun. My only "con" is that it was priced a little high. I would have dropped the price to around $40.00.

Child's Diego camera not practical, considering the price.,
This review is from: Diego Digital Camera (Electronics)
You cannot view the pictures, on the camera, like on a real digital camera. That would be the fun part, for a child. When you load them onto a computer, the quality is grainy, so you would never want to print them. So, in the end, it's no different then a $10 toy camera...but this costs $50.

Killed my son's interest in taking photos,

I know the title of this review seems harsh, but it's true. Our 3-year-old liked to take photos with our camera, but dropped it a lot, so we bought the Diego camera. The problem for us is the bad quality of the viewfinder pane. When you look through it indoors, you can't see anything but moving blurs of light and dark. Outdoors is better, but what you see is so pixelated and laggy that it's disconcerting at first, and eventually headache-inducing. Anyway, after a few minutes, our son refused to use it anymore. And at $50, it's very expensive for a paperweight.

I bought the Diego Camera for my preschool students. I wanted a camera that was rugged and could handle being dropped and banged around a bit.It turned out to be worthless. It freezes up every time we try to use it. We have to take the batteries out to turn it off, then we lose all the pictures taken that day. I put a memory card into it, in hopes that it would solve the freezing up problem, but it didn't. I don't have time to unscrew the battery door every day to down load the pictues through a card reader. I lost the receipt for this purchase and who I purchased it from (on-line) or I would have returned it by now. It's a shame, because the kids really like it (despite needing constant reminders to take off the camera lens cap), but I have only gotten a day or two worth of pictures out of it. I love having a classroom "photographer," but now I will need to find another sturdy camera to spend our limited funds on if we want that job to continue.

Nice camera. Very durable construction . I bought it for my four year old nephew and he loves it. It comes with enough memory for about 80 pics and also has and SD port for more pics. The box also include photo editing software for it. Only reason not a five star is because the lcd screen is not very good kinda hard to make out what your pictures look like.

the camera is fun. my boy was excited. need to take into consideration that the quality of the screen is really bad and the quality of the photos - also not good. but if you just play with it and not count on the photos - it is fun. dont count on the photos your child is taking - bring your own camera

My nephew loves the camera. Couldn't put it down for the first week. The picture quality isn't the greatest but great for a children's toy. The only thing I didn't like about the camera was the battery. I had the hardest time getting the battery in that came with the camera. The pieces were really tiny and I was very afraid I was going to loose them. Overall though it works great.

I suggest shopping arround for this camera before buying it here for $50. For that price, you can go ahead and get your child a real digital camera. I don't like the picture that displays on the screen. You can barely make out what it is because it's so fuzzy. Haven't loaded the pics yet to see what they look like on the computer. Hopefully they look better than they do on the camera.
