I had used this model for years and lo and behold I went to use it recently and the one plastic gear is stripped. I don't know how or who abused it to do this to it- kids or husband- but it worked very, very well for years. Of course now I can't just replace the stripped gear, the thing is no longer made and so the whole thing is trash. Its one drawback is that when you need to empty the paper out of the bin you have to pull the top off, and it's hard to get your fingers in there to do so. I am now buying a model that has a pull out drawer. But I would not have replaced this one except that it was likely abused by a family member. This was my third paper shredder and was so superior in its workings that I would have recommended it, even with the flaw of pulling the top off to empty the tiny little shreds. Rest in pieces, obsolete shredder!
