The USB TravelDrive is now slimmer and cooler than ever before. At .85" wide, these USB flash drives are 30% smaller than the original TravelDrive, while retaining a round, textured gripping area that makes for superior ergonomics. The transparent cap that protects the devices USB connector is specially designed to fit on the back of the drive, like a pen cap, to prevent loss. A reinforced aluminum lanyard loop on the back of the drive is highly resistant to breaking, and a blue LED indicator adds to the cool factor of this versatile mobile storage device.

I've had this drive now for a bit over a week and so far it beats my 128MB drive hands down. It somehow managed to get dropped into a flower pot outside for a couple of days - unfortunately rainy ones - and upon finding it and checking it out, it worked just fine. I guess I should learn to use the included lanyard when taking it outside the home from now on. Transfer times are quite good for large files or sets of files - I transfered about 300 MB of data in about 2 minutes to it from my hard drive.

I've had this Traveldrive for only 3 days now, but have used it quite often. It came formatted FAT and I can't locate any 'official' info about reformatting, so I'm waiting 'til later for a switch. The big drawback is there isn't any security software with it, but I'm still looking online. I had read about the 2GB units that had slow transfer times, and this one specifies a 1.5MBps (bytes, not bits) but when I use it for pretty large (25 to 50 Mbytes) or REALLY large (765 Mbytes) files, it performs very fast. I've timed a 48 Mbyte file at 22 seconds, and the 765 Mbyte file (782,967,317 bytes) took 176 seconds. That makes it 2.2 MBps with medium files and 4.4 MBps with the big honkers. So far, I'm totally satisfied with it. As long as I don't lose it somewhere - it's pretty small compared to the other junk in my pockets.

Cannot write to drive - 512K version,
By
This review is from: Memorex TravelDrive 1 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 32509060 (Personal Computers)
Hi - I just wanted to add a second comment about the breakdown of writing to the drive on the 512 K version (no longer listed at Amazon as of this writing) as the larger drives may have the same problem. After about six months in good working condition the drive came up with a "cannot make a path" error on two different computers. I could get info FROM the drive (on one) but no longer could write to it on either. Tried lots of things with nothing helping until I read the comment here about the same problem. I ordered a new travel drive (not Memorex this time) and then moved all the files from the Memorex drive to the computer that could still access the files. Once it was empty -- even without reformatting -- it happily took new information once more -- both as copies from already made files and as new saved files from various applications. So, if you find this happening to you, the drive is most likely NOT broken, just VERY confused. Good luck.
