Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a master storyteller,moving the plot line at speed.Part of what makes him interesting is his use of the unexpected.For example he will describe odors in detail or he will insert a supernatural explanation for an event.His theme of a 90 year old man giving himself a birthday present of an adolescent girl who is a virgin is audacious,but it becomes a tale of courtship and love and one feels sympathy for both of these two otherwise unfortunate people.

I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but I have to say that this is definitely not his best work. The characters were very dull, and it pretty much left me feeling like, why should I care?

Gabriel Garcia Marquez nos encanta una vez mas con esa habilidad para hacernos vivir un mundo creado por el. La novela es cruda, incluso algunos podrian encontrar algo vulgar ciertas partes, pero el autor se las ingenia para narrar esos episodios con una harmonia de palabras que hasta el mas sensible no los encontrara ofensivos. La recomiendo a todos los admiradores de autores Latinoamericanos.
