Book Description

April 29, 2007
The recipes in this book are from my mother, grandmothers, family and friends as well as those used in my cooking classes and television programs. In this cookbook, I am also printing the recipes (kept secret until now) that I have used in my personal chef and baking business.

The book title, Memories From Home is the result of something my dad said to me when an article that I had written about my grandmother appeared on an entire page in my hometown paper. He said, “you sure brought back a lot of good memories for me.” And, I knew that was it, it had to be Memories From Home! Thanks Daddy! I love you.

Since I have been writing for some years now I've included stories about my childhood and stories of growing up in the place that I love the most, the south! There is no place like it on earth. And, if you were lucky enough to be born here, or live here now, you will understand what I mean! It is a world of gracious living, and wonderful kind people.

Enjoy, my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories From Home May 12, 2007
Format:Paperback
This is a great book and it represents my love for old recipes as well as newer recipes.

It has great sections on soups, salads, entrees, desserts and lots of good brunch recipes. I loved my grandmother Irene and hope that you will enjoy the stories included in this book about her. I love good food, food, and the people that I grew up with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious desserts abound to finalize great meals January 27, 2008
Format:Paperback
Memories from Home, Cooking with Family and Friends, is just that. It is a delightful collection of all manner of time tested foods. If you love dessert this is definitely the book for you with pages and pages, 1/3 of the book, of home recipes for all manner of delicious desserts. It is a cookbook filled with legacy recipes and nostalgic memories and comments of where the recipes originated. It takes those of us of a certain generation back to a simpler, less complicated time when food was often the focal point of a day's activities. It reminds you of a time when the family came together to share nourishment and news as well as the subliminal bonding that took place among family and friends. Ms. Weiss has gathered main course entrées, salads, trimmings, breads and all manner of foods from many places, as well as rounding off the whole collection with cakes, cookies and candy, pies and tarts and if that is not enough sweets for you, another whole section on other desserts. The author made this a fun and useful read with her snippets of information and a look into the life that made her a cook, chef, teacher and writer. I can't wait to try the Chocolate Pie on page 237!Down Home Delicious

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me want to spend more time in the kitchen September 3, 2012
Format:Paperback
This charming book inspires me to get back in the kitchen and make some homemade food for my friends and family. Each of these recipes sounds so delicious and the ones that I have tried are spot on. The author also makes the recipes easy enough for a home cook like me to attempt. It is a book I would want to take with me away to the country house for the weekend, if I had a country house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Memories September 9, 2011
Format:Paperback
This book isn't just about recipes. Linda Weiss has an easy writing style that takes us to her family kitchen. We might hear about her grandmother's way of prepping or her mother's favorite way of serving while we wander the pages of the book, getting inspired. Some of the recipes are old and presented with a new twist from Linda. If you like to read cookbooks, you will love Memories From Home: Cooking with Family & Friends.

Linda gave me this book when we started blogging together. I am still enjoying what she has to say and how she says it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooking Nostalgia October 19, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The recipes in this book are many that my family loves as well. When I read this book, I had flashbacks of various relatives who served similar dishes at family events. Reading it was pure nostalgia. My mother made those ham biscuits! I remember them well. We never had a family cookbook, but this one is a champion, taking the place for our lapse. It fills an aching void of memory for me beyond the usual Southern cookbook. Thank you, Linda!
